« on: January 17, 2012, 08:12:14 PM »

Regular Areas I have:

(Note: all powers listed before the name are powers needed to complete area)

(All) My area
(Run, Double Jump, Umbrella, Climb) Yyler (Purple Key)
(Run, Double Jump, Umbrella, Climb, High Jump) Kazz (Yellow Key)
(Run, Double Jump, Climb, Detector) Bongo (Umbrella)
(Start of game) Bongo (Run, Double Jump, Blue Key)

Extra Areas I have:

(Note: all extra areas require all powerups and do not give any)

My area (Unfinished)
Yyler
Bongo Bill
Stush

Programmer's Rooms I have:

Mine
Yyler
Lee-Ham
Bongo Bill

Things I need:
Artwork
An area that gives climb
An area that gives high jump
An area that gives ghost eye
An area that gives detector
An area that gives red key
More Bonus areas
About a month to put it all together and playtest it once I have everything

Note that I don't need as many people as there are powerups. I can create extra early areas that give run, double jump, etc.

Which items are accounted for in the areas you have?

You have... most of an area that gives high jump.  Let me know if you need help figuring out how the hell the missing pieces are supposed to fit together.

I might start working on more areas. Give me some time to think up any novel ideas, and I might take a powerup. Hell, I will probably take one or two even if I'm not particularly inspired anyway.

Here, let me throw together a basic flowchart for the game. Bolded means that area is completed, unbolded means claimed by that person, and NEEDED means unclaimed.

AREA 1: RUN (Bongo)
AREA 2: DOUBLE JUMP (Bongo)
AREA 3: BLUE KEY (Bongo)
AREA 4: CLIMB (NEEDED)
AREA 5: DETECTOR (NEEDED)
AREA 6: UMBRELLA (BongoBill)
AREA 7: PURPLE KEY (Yyler)
AREA 8: HIGH JUMP (NEEDED/BRENTAI)
AREA 9: YELLOW KEY (Kazz)
AREA 10: GHOST EYE (NEEDED)
AREA 11: RED KEY (NEEDED)
AREA 12: THE ABYSS (Friday)
AREA 13: THE FINALE (Friday, Bongo, Yyler, More Extra Areas Needed)
AREA 14: THE ENDING (Need some more programmer's rooms)

OK. That should basically spell out what we need, + artwork.

I would strongly suggest that any new content created is relatively simple. Anything that increases my workload is only going to delay the game. Some nice, basic platforming challenges mixed in with maybe a puzzle or two plus some atmosphere is great. The easier it is for me to copy paste over to the final product, the better.

Hey, cool. Just consult my flowchart (posted above) and make sure you design for it.

I'm claiming Run and Double Jump. There will be a custom SFX track. Which music and SFX track numbers are currently used?

hahaha yeah nobody is keeping track of that. I personally am using like 200-230 for Ambiance.

Hopefully nobody is using 100. Start at 100. Then other people who work on it can go from there. If there's any overlap in the finished product, I'll fix it.

What kind of art do you need?  My free time is pretty much spent on miscellaneous class projects right now but if  it's fairly simple background assets or something like that I could try my hand on the menial grunt-work.  No guarantees on the quality, though, especially since if Lee-Ham is primarily in charge of the art he's going to make anything I come up look like the first attempt at a pornographic Sonic the Hedgehog fan-comic by a 12-year-old with Asperger's.

A single-screen area with no music or sound effects in which you take credit for your work.

Edit: Hell with it, I'm also claiming the blue key in this first area.

Basically at the end of the game the player runs through a bunch of rooms, each one created by a different designer with a message from them to the player (or not, it can just be a joke or whatever).

Brentai made us all do it for ek2 and it was a great thing for the ending so I'm doing it again.

Anyway, Stush, I was planning on just making a little room for you using one of the rooms in your area, but if you want to create your own thing that's totally fine.

I'll try put one together! What kind of shape does it need to be? Will you just make passageways between each one so they all link up?

Single screen. It can be any shape you want, but it's probably best to assume the player enters from left and leaves to the right. Also, like Bongo said, don't use any music. I'll be playing the Ending theme over all the rooms.

Bongo finished his second area, knocking out run, double jump, and the blue key.

We're making progress, people. This is what we need. Solid areas that knock out powerups.

Lobst expressed interest in the project, but vanished when I said to post here. Been incommunicado for two days. I will keep trying.

Sorry about that! I've been busy with a few things, but I'd still love to help out.

I've been thinking about this, and I've decided that I'd be better off providing artwork than level content -- unless it's absolutely necessary that I help fill the game out with other things, of course. I'm positive I can create an amazing intro and ending, at the very least.
