Oh hey, Genesis music, and fighting game music. Eternal Champions!

...man, the music in EC is far less tolerable than I remember. There are still a couple of standouts though.

And here's some Shadowrun while I'm at it. (The good version.)

For SF, ken's theme has to be the best:

Sounds better when its in the form of a metal cover though:

Also this verison of Adon Stage kicks ass:

This is one of the best ending themes I have ever heard for a nes game, (its a shame I can't find it clean...):

(its about 20 seconds in...)

Sometimes you must fight your way across Youtube. Sometimes you must claw your way through AMVs. Sometimes every recording of a boss kill is tainted by somebody's choice of "good" music. Sometimes..

The track doesn't exist.

But you press on. Because when you were a kid and you finished shooting your way through the apocalyptic wasteland of the future and you encountered the TANK HUNTER KILLER, this sweet synthesized riff kicked in and it was on. It was do or die, even if you were so fresh-faced you didn't even understand how rail shooters worked. Pretty sure I failed the Escort Mission several dozen times because I did not understand that I was defending the truck and would shoot at it, mistaking it's damage taken from enemies as my 'successful' efforts.

My sister does not play many games, but the games she does play she develops an incredible love for. Earthbound, Toejam and Earl, Aladdin and Pocahontas.. and Mission Impossible for the N64. I must've watched or heard her play through the Banquet Mission at least a dozen times. She loved it so much and would repeat it frequently, exploring randomly for hours and being delighted by anything new and even many things repeated. And it turns out.. the game has pretty decent music overall! The Train track in particular is a good emotional piece and if I recall correctly, perfectly set to a very tense gun-fight mission.

Dude. Journey to Silius. The sound people at Sunsoft were incredible.

In other news, this thread needs some Might & Magic. And I'm starting with some seriously obscure Might & Magic: the NES port. It's so obscure I had to put it up on youtube myself. And it's a shame because the music in it is fantastic. The graphics were nothing to sneeze at either. The game itself is brutal in that "early d&d ripoff first person dungeon crawler" way, but dang, the music.

Fortunately, much of the music for that franchise has a more widely acknowledged case of the awesomus maximus.

This game was literally impossible for a ten year old. But apparently the battle theme is insanely catchy. I am not sure what else to say. All 7th Saga invokes in me anymore is a sense of dread at the possibility of having to play 7th Saga.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwFdHwdGE60&feature=related

I am not a big fan of Final Fantasy 5. I think it's story is kind of wonky and poorly paced, it has some of the stupidest boss/dungeon design in the series and that it's lauded entirely for being the first of it's kind. Yeah, OK, Great. Sure is a lot of anger today.

So we will sit around the library and enjoy this inexplicably toe-tapping tune.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=piXeYKm6zUE&feature=related

Legend of the Mystical Ninja with KID YING and DR YANG was one of my all-time favorite games. I always sort of dreaded actually entering my first action stage. I would pain-stakingly travel across town, farming to max weapons, getting a ton of cash and bouncing happy-paw cats and stuff, do all the mini-games, etc. Eventually I'd have to enter an actual zone where monsters could kill me in a strictly 2D plane.

But hey, LotMN had incredibly great stage design and peppy music, so as you ran through the graveyard with this tune working it's way through your skull you would eventually be giddy and content. Until you had to fight that God Damn Ghost and the Boss Theme was catchy but really just the same 12 second stretch on infinite loop.

These are two tracks. The first makes you feel light and bubbly and wonderful and like maybe you should be walking around the world, frolicking in the grass, trying to eat delicious fruit, that sort of thing. A lot of the Tetris Attack tracks evoke this sort of light-hearted euphoria in me.

But I main GARGANTUA BLAAAARRRRRG so here is his theme which does the same but he is from a lava wasteland so his theme reflects catchy, zingy beats and a really cool background noise that conveys wonder and awe.

Tetris Attack will brighten your mood and lower your blood pressure because it's tunes are made from pure joy and the laughter of children.
