Title: Lynch Guild: The Game
Post by: Friday on December 07, 2008, 10:29:27 PM
come on guys

you can't lynch guild and then just stop playing in the hopes someone will start a new game so you can lynch guild again

it's quicker if you just complete this one

The rules:

Guildenstern is a player. There is a 50% chance he is a wolf.

There is an innocent player, randomly determined. He is innocent and is declared as such by me in public at the start of the game.

There is the rest of everybody. They are innocent if Guild is the Wolf, or, if Guild is innocent, they are all wolves.

The single innocent player has a gun. He can either shoot Guild or everyone else.

Sign ups go here

this is probably a joke but I will also run it if asked nicely

Bongo
DNi
Brentai
O. Hakubi
Romosome
Lunartick
Zara
Constantine
Arc
Kazz

and of course Guild

Arc is the confirmed innocent with the cannon.

Roles going out, if you do not get a PM, you're innocent.

There are two scenarios, with a 50% chance for each:

Either Guild is a wolf and everyone else is inno, or Guild is inno and everyone else is a wolf.

Arc must decide who to shoot!

He may ask questions and Guild may post and others may post and whatever.

Roles going out, game to start in 3... 2... 1...

START!

Arc has the gun and can end the game at any time by simply posting "I shoot Guild/Everyone Else."

Post by: Romosome on December 09, 2008, 12:40:29 PM
I got a PM from Arc claiming he was a secret seer forming a voting block for the Master Vampire to flush out the real threat, the werewolves, and that he already knew I was the fool.  He has asked me to pretend to be the seer, which means he is most likely lying about all of this HOWEVER I actually believe he is Innocent and has a good plan.

however I am going to vote to lynch him because I have a reverse psychology master plan so brilliant it will appear retarded to everyone, which is exactly how it works, only I forgot part of what happens next because I ran into a wall today

at any rate nothing is what it seems and this merely proves I am so good at werewolf and human manipulation that I have developed (for game purposes of course) the ability to cloud my own mind.

this is why I am voting for MYSELF and I hope this explains the situation properly

What kind of cannon is it, and are we in two separate groups?  Because I'm guessing that we're in one location and Guild is in another, with Arc and the cannon roughly equidistant from the two, but how it's set up would probably vary depending on the kind of cannon.  If it's a muzzle-loading gun circa the 17th to 19th centuries we'd all probably have to be lined up for the cannonball to actually kill us, which strikes me as being entirely too organized for what amounts to a one-man prisoner's dilemma.  Something like a Great Turkish Bombard would give a little more leeway in that respect, though not much.  Canister shot might work too, but then it's just everyone lined up side-to-side within the arc of the shot instead of in a queue.

Artillery is a bit more likely, owing to the relative ease with which one can eliminate a group of targets, even if the targets are spread out a bit.  It is, however, meant for extreme distances, which means that this entire ordeal would be taking place with the respective parties hundreds of yards away at the very least.  Direct fire is less likely but still possible, as proven during the Korean War at the Battle of Chosin Reservoir, but then things simply run into the same problem as with the cannon and you're still shouting at each other over long range anyway.

Likelier still is that the cannon Arc is tasked with is in fact an autocannon, firing 20mm rounds or greater at extremely high speeds.  Indeed, if one wants to kill a werewolf and silver, fire or whatever else isn't available, savage dismemberment and reduction to "chunky hairy salsa" status would probably be your next best bet.  Though to be fair, most people don't immediately think of high-caliber automatic weapons when they hear the word "cannon" and I'm not going to be so presumptuous to instantly assume that's what Friday meant.

I'm not even going to get in to future technology and science fiction (orbital satellite cannons, energy weapons, electromagnetic and gauss projectile systems, &c &c), but I won't discount the possibility of its use or reference in this werewolf game.  Any clarification on these matters would be appreciated.

Thanks muchly.

Yours etc.,
O. "Abbreviated Effete First Name" Hakubi III, Duke of Sealand

Perhaps Guild is in a cannon, and Arc has the choice of either aiming it at the trigger of a dunk tank upon which we are all mounted, and we are all composed of flame or we're bastard children of a Wicked Witch or something so the water will instantly kill us, or at a brick wall.

Anyway, I propose that Arc should murder Guild, because per the rules of the game, no matter what I am or what Guild is, Guild has to die in order for me to win.  Things are rather clear-cut in that sense, aren't they.

Perhaps Guild is in a cannon, and Arc has the choice of either aiming it at the trigger of a dunk tank upon which we are all mounted, and we are all composed of flame or we're bastard children of a Wicked Witch or something so the water will instantly kill us, or at a brick wall.

But the trigger for dunk tanks is traditionally a bull's-eye with a little plunger thing in the center, which would probably splat Guild when he hit it and make this entire affair "kill Guild or kill Guild and everyone else."  Unless Arc aimed the cannon into the air and shot Guild into the dunk tank, which would mean that everyone survived.  Unless the dunk tank was full of, like, liquid silver or liquid fire or ninjas or something.  But then we're just back to where we started.

Maybe it's a cannon with a line of fire that either goes past a lever that drops us into a dunk tank full of flaming liquid silver ninjas and ends with a pool of water OR goes into a brick wall, but in that case Arc's not really killing us with the cannon so much as not killing Guild, who then kills us, effectively making it an indirect cannon kill.

Title: Re: Lynch Guild: The Game

Exactly.

The fact that everyone was a fleabag was fairly obvious from the start, due to the volume of immediate replies, and the intentional confusing nature they (playfully) exuded. Suggestion: Send everyone private messages.

The Camel - Back - Breaker comment:

If we were wolves, one of us would have outed ourselves by now.

HA!

That said, not shooting Guild would have made me the Demons (a new title for this type of game?). The format will work correctly when another player is the target, and can be spiced-up with a werewolf character. This will allow for some form of relevant questioning.

Um, Arc... You were the one, confirmed innocent... That's how the game works? This is better designed than the two-thirds game (http://www.qwantz.com/archive/001360.html).

It might be interesting if a player at random is the only innocent/the only wolf, and nobody knows who it is.
I'm not sure how that would work in this game? So would everybody without a specifically defined role come up as ambiguous at time of death?

In.

For some reason I was trying to think of variations on this where there were more innocents and you shot, say, three people at a time to try and kill all there werewolves before you end up killing all the innos in the process.  Or have it start with one vampire-type character and every turn he turns another player and you need to stop the vampires but, again, multiple kills.

Lynch Guild Round 2

One day a dusty stranger rolled into town.  It was Detonator, a lone vigilante with a very special cannon.

"Now then," he said with an exaggerated drawl, "Who here's a god damned werewolf?"

"Not me!" cried all the townspeople!

Then, a quiet voice from the back whispered, "All of them."

Everybody gasped!  Oh my fuck!

It was Bongo Bill!  What's his game?

Detonator had to choose... turn his cannon on the treacherous Bongo Bill, or save him and burn the rest of the town in cleansing cannon fire?

Oooh, the pressure.

The pressure.

Go.

Detonator fired the amazing cannon straight at Bongo Bill's stupid head!

"Just as plaaaaaaaaaa" Bongo Bill said, and then he exploded.

Detonator nodded, "Only wolves die when they are killed.  You're all innocent!" he declared.

And then Detonator and the Innocents all rocked out.

Well I think the challenge is to match Guild's word up against the word of everybody else.

This probably really does work a lot better when Guild is actually Guild because the sheer weight of everybody else being right just slips right off him.

Of course the name of the game is obviously influencing the shooter's decision, too.

The thing is that there isn't much to argue about.  One side goes "NUT UH" and the other goes "YUH HUH" and you go back and forth and the cannoneer flips a coin.

In a real werewolf game, you discern what's going on by detecting logical fallacies and noticing who's working with whom and, y'know, deduction.

This game is another example of games that would be better in person, because you can watch your opponents sweat.

Guild plays as Guild. He is either innocent or a wolf or starts as a vampire. If he is an innocent he can be turned. Anyone, at any time, can kill Guildenstern, simply by stating so in bold.

Guildenstern has the role list, and is notified of everything the GM knows, every day.

Guildenstern wins if he is still alive at the end of the game, and his (current) side wins.

Note that if he begins the game inno and drops the role list immediately, one of the opposing teams will turn him (remember, the wolves get one turn, too) and then he will lose the game because the innos will lynch everyone he named and then kill him, and since he was a wolfpire he'd lose.

Players must threaten Guild to get him to reveal enough information to sate them for the time being. At any time if they are fed up with his bullshit they may kill him. Guild may do whatever the fuck shenanigans and lie and whatever.

Guild cannot be scried.

I don't remember signing up.

This game always ends before I can post. I think I'll pass all subsequent rounds.

I'm only in if there can be some sort of God Hand theme going.  Or really just people being punched a lot and/or hard enough to end up in other states.

Well, I'll run this if I get 25 people.

I do not even remotely expect to.

Oh, and, uh, I'd need Guild.

Regular players? No. I've gotten 25 before, though. Three times.

Last time I asked, I got twenty, I think.
