Small child mistaken for prostitute, :objection: beaten :ohshi~: and arrested. :gasp: (http://blogs.houstonpress.com/hairballs/2008/12/galveston_false_arrest.php)

That's every one of Niku's fetishes, right?
-
I like how the article words it like they're at fault for not racial profiling. :itsmagic:
Three weeks later, according to the lawsuit, police went to Dymond's school, where she was an honor student, and arrested her for assaulting a public servant.
Dear Galveston PD,
Please get shot.

The rational portion of my brain is demanding to know where the countersuit is. The less rational, but far more justified portion, is screaming "Kill Whitey" over and over again.
-
Wait, the kid and her dad were found guilty later of assaulting a peace officer?
:endit:
-
No, they're just being charged with that. The charges will never stick, though. Those statutes are generally for knowingly assaulting an officer engaged in the lawful execution of their duty, and ... yeah, neither element is met here.
-
...I lived around there for 16 years.
I see they haven't changed at all.
-
I am more wary of a policeman than a normal person. A normal person can be a good person or a bad person. A policeman has the exact same chance. Except they have a gun and a bullshit sense of authority and power.
I will never understand cops who don't get why people mistrust them.
IT'S BECAUSE OF SHIT LIKE THIS. IT'S BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT BETTER THAN US. YOU ARE JUST AS SHITTY AS THE PEOPLE YOU PRETEND TO BE ABOVE.
-
Wow, that's ...just how Kazz feels about cops. The thing about the gun.
-
On the other hand, I have met really nice/cool cops who are not "just doing their jobs" but rather attempt to actually help people whenever they can. They view their jobs as a calling to protect the innocent and uphold peace, which is exactly what a cop should be doing.
I still don't like them as a whole, however.
-
Without making any moral judgements, I'd say it's fair to distrust police officers because they have guns and their job is to find reasons to threaten you with their guns.
-
The police really are a bother, I mean, quite regularly they see me rollin'. I try to ignore it but I can't help but notice they hatin', possibly patrolin', and why? My guess is they tryin' to catch me ridin' dirty!
Tryin' to catch me ridin' dirty!
Tryin' to catch me ridin' dirty!
Tryin' to catch me ridin' dirty!
Tryin' to catch me ridin' dirty!

More often than not, if you're speaking to a police officer it's likely to be in a negative circumstance.
I'm sure most of them are great guys. Most of them have also never written me a ticket for being in a city park too late at night.
-
Nah, I've spoken to lots of officers in casual situations. Like Friday said, it really just sort of takes all kinds. You'd find the same ratio of nice-guys-to-fucking-sonofabitches working in law enforcement as you'd find in, say, retail.
That said, they're still all watching you.
-
...I don't think you and I are actually disagreeing. I'm just suggesting that if, say, you get pulled over, you're not going to have a positive opinion of the person doing it, even if you deserve it. And I think most people's direct experience with police is probably in situations like that. I may be off-base with that hypothesis; I'm sure it varies by race, class, geographic location, and population density.
-
I don't make new threads, I just veer existing ones into splits :O
-
It doesn't help when they're patronizing fucks about it, either. "I'm writing you a ticket saying you were going 76 in a 55 zone, when you were actually going 65, for your own safety. Because of course you're going to be driving way faster than you feel safe doing."
-
Has that happened to you? Where the cop said that?
-
The "I'm doing this for your own safety" part, yes. The rest was just the circumstances surrounding it.
-
ah
well radar guns are notoriously inaccurate
-
Leaving aside this particular case...
It's very easy to slag cops if you don't remember what urban life like was prior to Sir Robert Peel.
:whoops:

...
...
... How old are you again?
30 in February.
... Why must yee turn me boards into a house of lies?
Go back. Go back and tell the rest of the Time Lords that I'm aware of their plans for the Christmas Invasion. Tell them I'm aware and that A Cold Day In Hell awaits them all!

Sainte-Germaine was a thrupenny con artist. We dumped his body in the canal with laughter and wine.
