Gaming Discussion / Re: Metal Gear Solid 4? REALLY?

What, this part?

I remember being able to skip through it just fine. In fact, I think I watched that whole scene front-to-back just once. I also remember saying it could be skipped, not singing songs of praise from the highest mountain for every little bit of the game.

Man, Metal Gear's cutscenses. So long, so poorly written, so frequent...

If only there were a way to... I dunno, somehow circumvent them. To "skip" them, if you would. Perhaps with the press of a button or two. That way, you could get back to the sneaking and shooting right away!

Bioshock was a game with really boring gameplay but everything else about it was good.

That's, uh... not exactly a ringing endorsement.

I dunno, it's the hallmark of several games widely accepted as good. Eternal Darkness comes to mind.

Richard Fuckin' Doyle. :victory:

Geez, it's the James Robinson mess all over again. The one where a commercial airline pilot, a lawyer, and kid so young that he didn't know what a "terrorist" was were put on the No-Fly list. Shockingly enough, none of those three were actual terrorists.

I can't believe that we're even having this debate. Wait, yes I can.

Escapist ninnies piss and moan about a make-believe fantasy world being a make-believe fantasy world.

In other news, a 25-year-old man went berserk at the Irvine Spectrum, assaulting a crowd of people waiting in line to see James Cameron's Avatar in 3D. Eyewitnesses claim he tried to decapitate the guests with a plastic lightsaber while screaming about "Otherkin" between expletives. No serious injuries were reported, though the offender was tasered six times by security and taken to the county hospital and is stable but unconscious.

Also, Pat Robertson (predictably) blames the victims of the earthquake in Haiti for their plight.

...so my firewall at work blocks deviantART and XKCD sometimes, but waves Playboy through?

If I didn't know better, I'd say the TSA was handling our office's network security.

And yeah, it's like they just went "Hey! This /cgl/ thing on this 4chan site is pretty hot!"

So, I think I finished it!

I'm not sure since
I cleared the time-pressure hurdles of doom
, then went on to
run across a couple screens of serene sunrise
and finally
into the shadow of some maternal-looking statue that declared "You Win!" after the white-out
. It'd probably make more sense if I read all the way through F Project, but I didn't so it was a bit of a mind-fuck ending. But hey! Game!

Overall, I felt the same sense of adversity I got from F Project, so I guess that was neat. Needs more DU thunder guns in the sequel, I say.

Please please PLEASE tell me that image is from The Onion.

...?

In other news... wait, what? Really? You're not puttin' me on?

(EDIT BY THAD: DC passes gay marriage.  See?  Not fucking hard.  Four words.)

 Excuuuuuse me, Princess!

And my boss says environmentalism will seem like a quaint idea later down the line! (car makers seriously considering putting Internet consoles on the dashboard, since we don't have enough distractions already)

Mine had a capacity of at least 125 rounds with maxed out damage. I also ran out of bullets in Chapter 1 on hard mode and like the TF2 Pyro, so I guess I'm just a lousy shot.
Also, I just watched the consequences of screwing up on Youtube. OF COURSE it spits you out to let you writhe in pain before finishing you off!
:barf:

Doom, it is critical that you let the final boss kill you.
Frocto I assume
you meant for the last boss to eat me rather than just tentacle-smash me. That was delightfully graphic!
My roommate had me too spooked with his warning:
"It shares aspects of all the previous monsters." Didn't help that I had to reload twice with my Pulse Rifle. That was pretty close!
Huh? Friday made a game?

(a dozen-or-so attempts to pass Geo later...)

:ohgod: WHY? WHY WAS I PROGRAMMED TO FEEL PAIN?

Blech, time for bed. Sure to have nightmares of spikes, fire, and little plant dudes.

My thoughts on the Line Gun: "Wait, this thing has an alt-fire?"

I like some things in Dead Space but not the game itself, because it feels like a 13 year old's idea of what a horror game should be, but with a huge budget so it looks nice.

The Zero Punctuation guy put it pretty well. Something like:
Quote from: Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw
I've heard people praise how scary it is, but all it really does is startle and that's not difficult. I was startled when a possum jumped into my window. That doesn't make it the marsupial answer to Stanley Kubrick.
...
I guess you could say that I find it lacking in atmosphere, which is appropriate when you think about it

World of Warcraft / Re: Terrible Stories
« on: December 28, 2009, 01:31:25 PM »
I'm not sure if this counts as "terrible," but what the heck.

My prot paladin's been running around wearing Flintlocke's Piloting Pants for a while now, and that's worked out mostly alright. They had better stats and looked nicer than whatever bright green trousers I had on before.

Then she got these.

I've had some skimpy armor before, but I'm pretty sure this takes the cake. Why don't we just take Princess Leia's slave outfit, weld a couple studs over the nipples, and call it a day?
