it turns out the easiest solution to this is to download the maps ahead of time

WHO KNEW
It's really easy to set up 'sv_downloadurl' so that no one needs to download from another source. With the way it's currently set up the server loses half the people playing on it when it switches maps.

EDIT: In fact some maps do download from the server but some are not setup correctly. I just downloaded pacman fine.

Another thing that happens is similar to when you get disconnected, but instead I just vibrate in place while everyone teleports around, a couple feet at a time. Then I start moving and people can see me again. Very irritating.

I'm having the same exact issue ever since the Spy VS. Sniper update. I'm running a dual core, Geforce GTX260, 4gb of ram, and vista 64bit. I think Geo was getting the same issue as well and his specs are pretty similar to mine. I actually had Madmax see it happen to me once and he said I just appeared somewhere else suddenly. Thankfully, it's pretty infrequent but it's certainly still annoying.

The ambassador crit is just too weak and after the first shot it's hard to hit someone in the head. Although it used to be pretty decent when it was bugged and shot people in the head even when you missed.

I have had Jarate, Jarate, Jarate, bonk, bonk, cloak and dagger, dead ringer, razorback, ambassador, and the sanvich drop for me in about 30 hours of game play. So I'm guessing it rolls for an item every 3 hours or less. Although you are certainly not guaranteed and item each time. I think Bal and Geo have gone 10+ hours without a single item.

Dell is having a sale on the 2209WA monitor again. This is likely the best 22" monitor on the market and at this price it's really good.

An important aspect of a monitor that a lot of people ignore is the panel type. You have IPS, MVA, PVA, and TN monitors with various subtypes as well. TN is the common type that sells the most because of the price and it's response time can't be beat but it is also really bad at color reproduction. Sadly most companies don't advertise what panel type a monitor is, so you have to go by specs or just google the model number.

Dell often has a deal on the 2209WA which is probably the best 22inch LCD on the market right now for the price. I managed to pick one up for about $200 and I couldn't be happier with it. It's an E-IPS panel so you get great color reproduction but still have a good response time.

Another good tip for anyone in the market for a new monitor is to watch out for bad monitor return policies. Newegg for example, requires more than 8 dead pixels before you can return it.

After trying to get Art of War Central to actually fix the server issues I instead moved to gameservers.com. They have a nice deal going on now where it's only $17/month for 24 slots public. The new server is 68.232.163.72:27015.

Hopefully my server will finally stop crashing every 30 minutes and taking forever to switch maps. I sent in a trouble ticket about it and they claim to be fixing the issues.

I used to run a Garry's Mod server a couple months back and most server resellers have some kind of system to pool money into the server so you end up with a balance saved up for remaining months. The hosting company overcharged me for a month but gave me the money back as server credit which is why I had some left over to make the TF2 server. I don't plan to have it up for more than a month unless the vent dudes actually stick to playing TF2 longer than a few weeks but it is nice to have a public server to fill out with 24 people when we want some large games. I'm sure by the end of the month we will all be back to playing DotA and farting into the microphone again.

Requesting sudden death round.

Done.

Are we in need of reserved slots?

I was considering it but I don't really like how the existing mods handle reserved slots and it takes a lot of work to manually add everyone's steam ID to the config files. The server doesn't really fill up until we get a couple of us on it anyway.
