Because Anonymous by definition is any schmuck who decides to call himself Anonymous.

Fighting "Anonymous" makes you look a little stupid because it's like fighting "Steve".

Exactly. Back in the Chanology days, crazy right-wing comment posters on news websites would claim to have insider information on Anonymous from "high-ranking members in the organization". They had no concept of how nebulous and loosely organized the Anonymous movement was. They'd just invent facts to make themselves feel authoritative on the topic.

The flip side of that is that even if Anonymous goes down, we'll still see some kind of amorphous international hacking group evolve to fill its place.

Which is why the Guy Fawkes mask makes so much sense.

I wonder if this is actually a plan to discredit Anonymous as a threat? I just doubt the group has that kind of reach.

Then again, that's the day before April 1st...

Never mind reach, that's a really long lead-time on that announcement.

Something smells funny here.

Part of me wonders what the real goal of any of those dorks is/was anyway.

In the grand scheme of things, nothing Anonymous has ever done has really had that much impact. They're more like a bogeyman for crusty-out-of-touch white guys to fret about THE WILDS OF THE INTERNETS over.

I'd say in LulzSec's case it really is exactly what it says on the tin: they really are in it just for the laughs.

Reading that article would take about 30% more effort than I want to spend, can anyone tell me if Sabu has confirmed or denied that the end of lulzsec was planned like they said or did they really just get scared and move to bel-air chicken out
