Observations
« on: March 05, 2010, 04:53:30 PM »

There is no thread for this, and it is simply a random thing that I should have noticed years ago but didn't.  Maybe I will splitmerge a bunch of Witcher posts into this.  I don't know!

But you know what just occurred to me?

The name of the main character in The Witcher is the Eastern European equivalent of "Geraldo Rivera".

...

...I'm years behind everyone else in noticing this, aren't I.

Well, I was looking for an opportunity to post this.

I realized the reason I like Leon in Resident Evil 4 so much is because the game is acutely aware of how much his dialogue sucks, and the other characters just laugh at him.

Leon wants so badly to be the action movie hero with the razor-sharp wit, but just can't pull it off when he actually gets his opportunity.  Fortunately, he's still got the ass-kicking part down pat.

That's news to me! Although I'm pretty  :slow: about most video game trivia.

Final Fantasy X-2 is structured a lot like a Bioware game.

Technically The Witcher was a series of books first, and it is unlikely that the Polish author is familiar with Geraldo.  Most likely just a wacky coincidence, like Robo's theme sounding exactly like Never Gonna Give You Up.  Still, it has filled me with bad ideas for not-very-funny comedy.

The name "The Witcher" itself is the result of poor translation in any case, and the author has said that "The Hexer" would be a lot closer, but it's way too late now.

To be fair, I would hate to have someone cast a witch on me.
