Gamespite Quarterly
« on: March 02, 2010, 05:50:15 PM »

Self-promotion incoming. Feel free to leave now if this sort of shit bothers you.

Landowner Parish and the folks from clean-cut bizarro land have been putting out quarterly anthologies of video game musings, aptly named Gamespite Quarterly. The first three volumes are available now for free, while the latest version was just released this week, and is available for tangible, bound, meat-space purchase  right now.

Now, being that we're all cut from the same cloth here, I imagine the majority of you already know about these things, and either already read them or couldn't give less of a shit. To the rest of you: Go check them out! I've been contributing since volume 3, though I haven't really talked about them here yet since self-promotion can be annoying and I didn't want to get flayed alive. Still, I'm pretty proud of the work I've got here, and of the seriously great articles everyone else has put forth. Particularly, Quarterly 3's massive 8-bit character profile list. And really, there's nothing quite like tangible videogame chatter!

Feel free to discuss the Quarterly here, or if you prefer, to quietly let this thread sink into the abyss.

I still haven't finished GSQ3.  I kinda just don't like it.  It's a little too .. I dunno, twee?  I guess I will keep going at some point soon, maybe.  But that didn't keep me from ordering 4, because 1 and 2 were great!

That said, I know the damn thing is all on the website, but I still don't like having extra content in these books exclusive to the hardcover version.  I prefer getting these in paperbacks as a choice, damnit.  I shouldn't lose out on pagecount because of that!  Grr grr, etc.

If you want nicely laid out, pro PDF, let me know and I'll do article layouts. I'm also capable of writing a great deal on game design -- provided one of you acts as my editor.

I've contributed a smattering of pieces to GameSpite as a venture, but only two since the Quarterly started up last year.  Needless to say, I'm a fan!  Time doesn't allow me to write very much, but I've always got a bit or two waiting in the wings for the moment when some inspiration strikes.

I haven't bought any of the actual books, since I've been waiting for them to pile up so I can save on shipping.

Do we need to continue playing mirror universe and produce a publication where we make reasons why all the games they cover suck?

Hey, this is cool.  I did not know they were actual books, but that makes me not want to buy any without buying all of them and then that is adding up to be quite a bit of money.  When can I get a box set?

I'm all for that.

Yeah, that's quite the rub. All I can say is, if you'd like more than one, definitely buy a few at a time. You'll save on shipping that way.

Yeah, shipping is kinda a bitch on the books if you buy them one at a time, so the more you buy at once the cheaper it really is.

Are GS#1, #2, and #3 available in hardcover, or will they be eventually? Or is this something that is only going to be done with #4 onwards?

All of the books are available in hardcover and have a bit of extra bonus content (printwise, since it ALL ends up on the web) to boot.
