Excerpt from CNN article about pirate being brought for trial in the US.

Quote
Quinn said he wasn't angry at the single alleged pirate, noting that piracy in the region is fueled by the urge to survive hardship and poverty. He said the suspect told him that he wanted to go the United States, and asked whether Quinn could help him get there.

"I said, 'Yeah, you'll probably going to go anyway. I don't think you're going to need my help,'" Quinn said. "If he goes to jail here, it will be a whole lot better than living in Somalia."

So..  Should we start sending our prisoners to Somalia?

That, or to leaky hulks parked in the Thames Chesapeake.

Wow, Somalia is worse than our prison system.

They desperately need our help.

Man, did you see the giant shit-eating grin on the kid's face as they brought him into the US?

Hee hee!

It's like these guys go to sleep at night and dream of being captured by Americans.

You tried that once already.  It didn't go so well.

Actually come to think of it..  This is going to be really interesting.  There may be a good chance that guy learns english in the slammer.  If he does, there is also a good chance he could write and sell memoirs.  If he goes to jail for ten years, it would be justice in a big way.  A jailed man who wants to be there..  who is much more tough than those already in the slammer.

People could learn more about what it's like to live in the northeast Somalia.

The possibilities are endless!   :perfect:

Let's just go put every last person in Somalia in a US prison!  It will be a massive good-will effort!

Sadly enough, despite your sarcasm..

It's not like we can just help the antagonist evacuate all the innocent civilians like in Farcry 2..

By the by, anybody else been following this?

I love this write-up. Somebody deserves a prize for using 'opportunistic charlatans' with a straight face.

I like the story where the Egyptian fishermen escape from Somali pirates. What were Egyptian fishermen doing in Somali waters anyway?

Starr has this old friend, a self-described 'thick black chick' who arrived in Minnesota as a Somali refugee (along with her mother) years ago as a baby.

Well, she's been taking some kind of law degree (another one!). Guess who called her up? The Feds have asked her to possibly come to New York and translate for the Somali Pirate Trials.

All I have to say is FREAKING COOL.

Or, alternate comedy answer:

"Excuse me ma'am, the suspect just said, 'YARR! AVAST MATEY!' Could you please translate that into English for the court?"

If ONLY Somali pirates talked like that.  They probably don't even observe "Talk Like a Pirate Day".

There's some good (if rather obvious) jokes floating around the comments there too.

Quote
Pirate #1:
Turn her around.

Pirate #2:
???

Pirate #1:
I said turn her around! And turn the throttle all the way up.

Pirate #3:
You're going to attack them?!

Pirate #4:
Sir, the odds of surviving a direct assault on an American Navy freighter . . .

Pirate #1:
Never tell me the odds!
