...Better this week, at least.  Moved at a good clip, mostly made sense.

The two major problems:

1. Gwen actually SHOUTING explanations of all the symbolism that we already figured out before any of the characters on the show;
2. People are not rioting in the fucking streets at this point.  Recent news not only makes Gwen's little "fight the power" moment feel a little awkwardly-timed, it also points out that, hey, people riot in the streets over a lot less than the apocalyptic scenario they've presented in this show.

...well, that was definitely a season of Torchwood, all right.

Started out promising, got silly, descended into terrible (my girlfriend -- who, unlike me, has watched the entire series -- declared the flashback episode the worst ever), got a little better, and ended on so-bad-it's-good (seriously, does anybody do anything but snicker when they hear "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry" at this point?  Well, snicker and maybe take a drink).

...so yeah, if there's a season 5, and if it gets the kind of "Holy shit you have got to watch this" response that season 3 did, I will watch it.  Short of that, I won't.

Did Davies serious put that line in again? The Doctor isn't even fucking there, for fuck's sake. I could deal with it being an idiosyncrasy of Tennant's Doctor, but putting in just anyone's mouth? Really? Come on.

Did Davies serious put that line in again?

Twice.  And that's just in the finale.

...also: can anyone justify the existence of Esther Drummond, the World's Most Incompetent CIA Operative to me?  I don't actually recall her doing anything in the entire season except looking helpless and constantly fucking everything up.  I assumed there was supposed to be a character arc for her where she became more confident and competent and the audience was given some sort of reason not to hate her, but it never came.

Rory says it in the last episode of Doctor Who, which makes even less sense as he's never even met the 10th Doctor.

Well Rory did kind of genuinely mean he really was deeply sorry about how it all happened and that he shouldn't of trusted the Doctor. As opposed to how the 10th and I assume the folks on Torchwood use it, to mean "I'm sorry you are going to die by no fault of my own because didn't listen to me!"

I think there's a difference between just the words, and the Davies written delivery of the line that we've heard so much. I didn't even notice it in the Doctor Who episode, probably because of the genuine emotion of the scene.

So the wife and I are watching Torchwood and in Episode 7 when Tosh follows the murderous husband to his house, the husband's kid walks by playing a game on the game boy color. I instantly knew just from hearing it that it wasn't just stock sound. It was a game I spent a lot of time playing as a kid. Initially I thought it was Bubble Ghost, but I was wrong. It was even more obscure:

It was fucking Quarth.

Quarth (GB)

I know that the Doctor Who/Torchwood writers love obscure pop culture references but I think is the most obscure reference to anything I have ever seen in my life. It's so obscure that I appear to be the only person who ever noticed it on the internet.

Haha, Quarth.  I've still got my copy somewhere.

Never saw that episode (I don't think); that was around the time I quit watching regularly.

And then I started watching regularly for season 3 (good idea!) and 4 (bad idea!).
