Treasure Adventure Game
« on: November 09, 2012, 09:20:04 PM »

TAG is a metroidvania-esque treasure hunting game set in a huge post-apocalyptic archipelago. It's fairly long, middlingly challenging and the story and art add up to give it an Earthbound/Mother 4 vibe (perhaps crossed with Wind Waker, mechanically). You play a kid who was injured as a child and has a hook hand which he swings to attack and climb walls. A later upgrade allows him to throw the hook to hit enemies from a safe distance. Guide him through a pixelly world set on a series of islands filled with magical animals, ghosts, pirates, giant mushrooms, spiders and various traps and puzzles while enjoying the quirky music and sandbox environs.

It's getting dark and I'm running low on health. My compass, calibrated to a map I found in an abandoned house, is telling me to keep going east, but I'm a little lost and there's no save point in sight. Suddenly a vine monster attacks! I chuck a rock at it and eight coins pop out. Whew, that was close!

Here I am in the Netherlike between-world that allows faster travel. I'm standing near the island where the ancient Legendary Hero lived. To get to the in-between world,
use the magic jar on the vortexes on each island.
Check out my baseball cap! Set me back 100 coins and I have no idea what it does yet (though I've been assured that all the hats have a function). I'd appreciate it if anyone could post discoveries about what some of the hats do. The game's so newly out that there aren't any good walk-throughs yet. So far I know that
the purple tophat scares the Rhino (?) and the Adventurer's hat scares some other creature. The mouse hat apparently allows you to climb further into the tree. The red hat will allow the ball to bounce off your head if you miss hitting it.
Meditating with my parrot.
You can get an extradimensional piece by standing here for about 20 seconds.
The only complaints I have are that the main character moves left and right a little sluggishly and his inertia ramp-up and direction changing are too realistic. The magic jar can be a nightmare to use at times, too. For this reason the game earned a 4/5 from me.

It's free now but apparently won't be for long, so download it soon!
