CT to stop touring at the end of the year; they're calling it an "indefinite hiatus".

So if you see a tour in your area this year, you'll probably want to scrape together the cash to go see it; it could be your last chance.

There aren't many shows scheduled for this year as yet, but keep an eye on the tour page.

Rifftrax seeking rights to Twilight to live-riff it.

They got the money within an hour; they're currently standing at a little over twice their goal.

Of course, it's not a done deal yet and the studio can still say "No thank you" no matter how much they're offered.  So if they don't get Twilight, they're going to go down their fan-picked Worst Movies Ever list until they find a rightsholder who says yes.

It's Starship Troopers.

That's not a bad second choice.

Moving the conversation over here rather than keep it in the Obit thread, but, to recap:

probably only Blaxploitation/Chop-Socky crossover flick.

Oh, not the only one.
Oh man, I need to see that (Hulu don' work here).

Maybe I'll futz with a workaround tomorrow.

If you can use American Amazon, they've got it for sale.  (Note: Affiliate link; I get a kickback.)

It's also available for download at EZ Takes, if you can use Paypal.  I don't see anything about format but I THINK it's a DVD ISO.

Wonder which live show they recorded.  I saw it in Mesa.

Volume 28 episodes revealed, and holy shit, they got the rights to release Gorgo.

Along with Moon Zero Two, The Day the Earth Froze, The Leech Woman, and a bonus disc with Mitchell and The Brain That Wouldn't Die.

Could this be the best release ever?  Yes.  Yes it could.

Amazon's got a big sale on, loads of sets for $25.

Picking a few favorites from the list:

Vol 14: Mad Monster / Manhunt in Space / Soultaker / Final Justice
20th Anniversary: First Spaceship on Venus / Laserblast / Werewolf / Future War
Vol 21: The Gamera set

(Those are affiliate links; I get a kickback if you buy from 'em.  Or click on 'em and then buy something else.)

A lot of the sets look to be out of stock, but you can still order them for the sale price.

This may also be to let people know that Amazon Prime's got all those streaming episodes that aren't on Netflix anymore.

Vol 14: Mad Monster / Manhunt in Space / Soultaker / Final Justice
Soultaker and Final Justice are two of their best. I adored the era of Soultaker, where they started mining the late 80's and early 90's for material.

Yeah, putting that set first was not a random choice.

(Soultaker's also got good host segments, with the heartwarming returns of Joel and Frank.)

Starship Troopers is Thursday; check Fathom Events to see if it's playing at any of your local theaters.

Cinematic Titanic coming to an end, pretty much immediately. They're a bit sick of organizing everyone together for touring, which is understandable at their age, I guess. I was hoping they'd continue doing DVD releases, but... no dice.

I suppose they've always been more of a travelling comedy act than a "show," when you think about it. They talk a lot about being improv comedians, which I guess they are in a way. They prepare all their lines, yeah, so it's not actually improv, but it always felt like a sort of improv.

Sad seeing it end — The Alien Factor is my favorite thing to come out of both post-MST3K projects.

I don't know that "immediately" is really the appropriate word when (1) it was announced back in February (scroll up) and (2) they're touring through December.  Still, sad to see them go and disappointed they didn't make it back to Arizona one more time; I saw them in '09 as my first as-a-couple date with my now-wife.  They came back in '11 but I was unemployed and tickets were too pricey.

Joel's been doing plenty of solo riffing gigs, and the rest of the Titans are keeping busy too.  I look forward to whatever comes next.

And Pehl did a guest spot on Rifftrax once.  That could always happen again, with her or with any of the other alums.

Sweet! Joel's hosting an online showing of five MST3K episodes for Turkey Day!

Can't imagine I'm going to have time to watch any of it, considering it'll be Thanksgiving and all, but still.

Steam's going — just finished Space Mutiny. Looks like they have a livechat set up, too.
