Whoa... where the fuck did all my posts about those same news stories in the TAP YOUR PHONE thread go? I was going to say I'd posted a bunch of stuff about that in the last couple days, but the posts are just gone now.

Thad, are you doing some big splitmerge or something?

Now I'm seeing a thing on CNN that Manning is looking for gender reassignment therapy, and wants to be called "Chelsea Manning".

I was thinking that too.

It's like saying the most honest part of our political system is the one that wants to tear it completely to the ground.

Every now and then, the tree of liberty must be watered.

Hmm, you're right, an overt white supremacist advocating the systematic degradation of anyone who isn't a rich white man might just be our only hope for the future.

Come on, people.

Do you understand how terrifying the words “vibrating strap on” are for an asexual? That’s like saying “the holocaust” to a Jew.

We have at least reached the point where otherwise reasonable people aren't dismissing it out of hand.

Things being so bad that people are willing to overlook severely crippling and dangerous flaws in someone who promises to upend the system... this is how demagogues get in, yes (I was going to say dictators, but that might be a hair too hyperbolic... for now anyway).

amazing how much good will you can get when you're the single person in congress saying HEY MAYBE THE GOVERNMENT IS BEING JUST A BIT TOO UNDERHANDED.

Even if you want to savagely curtail the liberties of 51% of the population.

If you're a really effective demagogue then that's not an oversight, it's the platform you run on.

Within the narrow context of standing up against government surveillance programs and targeted assassinations, he's not the only guy but he's the one who knows how to get press coverage for it.

If I were suggesting that this was a good thing, I probably would not have chosen the words "terrifying", "awful", or "sinking".
