Peripherals make me hardware
« on: September 02, 2008, 11:47:12 PM »

I've been considering getting a new mouse, probably for too much money.  I want something with more buttons, for when I'm gaming (or even just to add new tricks to my everyday use.  I've heard good stuff about the G9 and the Logitech MX Revolution seems like it could be neat, though I really don't like the idea of using a wireless mouse.

Any suggestions?

I have the wired version of the G9 and love it pretty hard.  Form factor is nice, it actually has multiple left-side buttons, and with a little tweaking, the on-mouse DPI controls are great for swapping between TF2 classes.

I bought a wireless mouse+keyboard set of some random-ass internet wholesaler. $90 dollar set for $30 shipped? I'm down, considering I just broke my keyboard.

Problem.

The mouse wheel clicks side to side. I can't seem to push down evenly on it to get middle mouse button functionality, it just starts throwing shit around. I haven't been able to close a tab without tossing it through a window!  :sadpanda:

After watching my aim spin around in pointless circles at crucial moments while playing TF2, I think I need to start investing in a new mouse.  I got my current for $10, and it has a variety of unique quirks that make it unfit for just about everything I do.  The sensor isn't accurate, so the cursor will occasionally lose focus and shift left or right.  Without me touching it.  It will also occasionally go balls out insane and send the cursor/my aim/the WoW screen in circles until I touch it.  This has killed me a lot recently in TF2.  And lastly, the mouse wheel is like playing a game of dice where I'm never sure if it's going to go up or down when I use it.

My mouse does these things, but I always end up just staring at a floor or ceiling for about three seconds until I correct it. It never seems to come up during combat, most likely because I am re-orienting the focus constantly.

I'm using a $30 optical with a cord.

If you sneak onto LB Vent, I'm sure Malvado could tell you how to get mice that can measure movements down to individual electrons.

Constantine: That actually sounds like a reflective mouse pad more than anything.
