It was goodtimes. Highlights include a very tense game of Go (my first, which I lost), and a very tense game of Settlers of Catan (my first, which I won), and the Greatest Mexican Restaurant. Lowlights included pretentious no-vegans-allowed brunch place (and even that wasn't that bad), and not getting to play Arkham Horror (:sadpanda:).

I'd like to thank Matt, Starr, and roommate Brian for their hospitality and beer. It was goodtimes!

Kudos again to IM and Starr as the hosts, and the Brian guy who was an enjoyable character, plus the Scout.

Highlights included the Gingerbread snakes and ladders game, as well as seeing the culture of downtown Chinatown plus the random shopping always out of control.

Also enjoyed meeting Buge, Koipond, and Fredward.

I won't have any photos on my end to put up until the next time Damon comes over, so in the interim, let's see what pictures you guys have! NAG! NAG! NAG! NAG!

FIIIIINE

Koipond brought over a game called "Shootin' Ladders." It's about gingerbread men blasting each other to bits and shredding bits of paper. This is me winning the game next to Mongrel's roommate Brian.

And here is Mongrel accepting the award for hosting the event.

The award is Star Wars cards.

Here we are watching Black Belt Jones, the greatest martial-arts/blaxploitation film starring Scatman Crothers of 1974.

left to right: koipond, SCD, that's Damon in the back stuffing his face, Brian again, and Mongrel's ever-so-patient-and-generous wife Starr.

There were kitties too! :3

They have extra thumbs.

We saw this outside a Mormon temple.

The Chinese Festival was a larf. Saw lots of furriner people with their furriner shops and their furriner music and their furriner foods...

Here's Fredward and SCD at the bubble tea shop. I had taro/coconut. Feels good, man.

Ha ha, we walked over Gretzky's grave. Buy your way out of that, "Great One."

I took the gang to a beer bistro on Yonge St. I think they enjoyed my choice.

Check please!

Oh, and SCD, I hope you were able to find a Chun-Li figure. I know I did!

So I sat in a square table at my new work tonight and threw a pun on the table.  Everyone cringed and laughed, but no one tried to one-up me.   ::(: to koipond, buge, im, and fredward...

We must do this again sometime.  The idea of a camping trip has been thrown around, but if we do this, we must get it off by the third weekend of October before we deal with winter camping, something that I am not used to at subalpine levels, and thus will be sucking for at least two years.

So, if we decided to get a camping trip off of the ground, for me it would have to be the thanksgiving weekend - it would either be that or bust.  Considering that you guys out here in central Kaneda actually have autumns and not monsoon seasons like Fredward and I had back in that time, I think something can be worked out.

Personally, I'm decked to the nines with gear and could probably even haggle out a large tent good enough for the august jamboree lot of us.

And by gear, I mean

stove, 2 burner, 1 burners,
a water filter that puts a city to shame.
edged cutting impliments including knife, machete, saw
lantern
some naphta
plastic tarps like the homeless or the painters use - super-effective
axes
backpacks
duffle bags
canoe
paddles

I personaly love the bush but my reserve military life coupled with school will be an active force in preventing me from camping the frequency that I would want to be camping (1 per month)

I hear that IM and starr would also be interested, pending circumstance.

I am wondering if we have any other takers?

I can confirm that Thanksgiving weekend would be okay. As for gear, we have what once was a good-quality sleeping bag we can share, (I believe the zipper is bust). I'll ask Damon if he's interested, and I know The Scout and Housebound Brian are probably write-offs.

I was worried because we have an invite to the K-W Oktoberfest, but luckily those drunkards have it running from the 9th to the 17th so we can go get drunk the weekend afterwards! :perfect:

Damon is interested but he has a question: Will this possibly be child-friendly? Reason is, you may remember Damon's friend Vanessa. He's thinking about going with her, but she has a young daughter (5 years or so).

I don't have any objections to anklebiters, but others may well. Best find out right away.

The Scout is also interested. I know he has no gear at all. Not sure if Damon has sleeping bags or not.

Update: The Scout is actually interested in coming with his girlfriend, which would put my bunch at seven folks already... if we actually had that many, we'd probably rent a van or something. Also, The Scout says he and his woman have sleeping bags and he claims he has a tent, though I can't speak for the quality of the tent.

That pretty much covers anyone I might've asked to come, since Koipond will almost certainly be too busy, though I'll ask him anyway.

Where were you thinking of doing this anyway?

Say, is anything still happening with the Thanksgiving weekend?

Just wondering!

Well, I'm going to have to pass on the Thanksgiving thing. I've reserved that weekend for family.

I should've posted anyway, SCD got back to me and said it was a no-go anyway.

Instead, Starr and I are going to the K-W OKTOBERFEST :perfect:

Yeah, inertia on the reply end made me scale down plans.

Having the local subject matter expert on Algonquin Pk (not me) get caught up in a wedding caused things to collapse.

Also, just curious:  do either of you have wheels?  I have a sedan myself.

I have 50% of the wheels required for a car!

At least the tires are new? They're even on the rims the correct way... now.

P.S. That's a no.  :nyoro~n:
