No More Heroes
« on: February 25, 2010, 05:21:13 PM »

I'm playing the first one. I just got to Rank 7.

It is a good game. I do not get the kvetching about side-jobs. You do 2-3 and you're set for next rank. After your rank fight, you get new jobs. Doing the new jobs gives you enough money for the next rank. I guess it's a real problem if you buy all the clothes at Area 51 immediately.
Destroyman is a snivelin' bitch after that irritatin' Shinobu battle, I tell you what!
Well, buying THE BEST STUFF is kind of expensive and tedious, and the side jobs really don't add anything on subsequent playthroughs, but No More Heroes is great regardless. Particularly in the last half.

Protip: don't skip the best sword, then proceed to save your cleared data after the ending before realizing you can't go back and fight the actual final boss.

No More Heroes is a comedy. Most of its value comes from its style and sense of humor. I happen to like the gameplay as well though, so bonus for me.

One great thing it does with the motion controls is that in combat, swinging the wiimote is a gesture of victory. The wrestling moves and deathblows are rewards, and honestly I get into them way more than I would if you had to swing it for every strike. When I have to slash downwards, half the time I physically jump into the air and strike on the way down because I feel like anything else wouldn't be sufficiently awe.some. I wouldn't do that if I had to do it every single time I want to attack.

Oh yeah I really love the way that the game actively engages and rewards you for fighting. The Slot Machine + Dark Side Modes are another great reward.

And the game really makes me want to suplex every Rank Boss.

You're absolutely required to look like you're jacking off your remote when recharging your sword.
you can't on one of them
You're absolutely required to look like you're jacking off your remote when recharging your sword.

If there are friends in the room, they are required to do it with you, regardless of whether they're holding remotes or not.

People bitch about sidejobs when it comes to final sword + final rank.

I just unlocked a job that gives me $150,000 per completion and is next to the place that assigns it, though.

The infinite battery upgrade (costs 1mil), which is optional, is the only thing you'll have to grind for (which won't take long anyway).
Hit Sir Henry several hundred times to win. He has an instant kill attack after the first 150 or so. Guess I should have cheesed the game on the easiest difficulty!
::(:
Youtube Real Ending.
Game filed away as Beaten, but ripe for more play to earn "Completion."

I dunno, maybe I just need to upgrade the last katana some more. It's fucking terrible without upgrades. But am I gonna have to replay the game back to the end point?

Hahaha, yeah.  I played through on mild, got the normal ending, and saved over my original save with the clear data.  D'oh, there's another ending?  Welp, I'll just newgame+ my way through bitter and get the proper ending that way! :whoops:

Get the final battery.  Learn dark step.  Worship it.

I know how to dark step. That doesn't make the task any less monotonous.

No, it doesn't, it just gives you a few more free hits per opening.  The battery does the same, since you don't need to recharge.

If you're planning on playing 2, you can prettymuch breeze through it since ranked matches don't cost moneys,
there's only 2 cheap sword upgrades, and the best sword is given to you later on. You don't even need the other 2 for completion.
Well 2 sort of gives you flavor with options besides standard beam katana which I like.
