the postmortal is a fuckin rad book
It really is one of the best books I've read in the last few years. I'm sad Mothra gave it away and didn't keep it to read whenever he feels down
(the joke is that I found it to be one of the most depressing goddamn books I've ever read)

I originally picked it up when Ocksi described the plot and gave it a rec. I mean, I loved it, but holy god it is sad.

I mentioned it to Zara in chat a month or so back, and he sounded interested. Apparently over there, in the UK, it's called "The End Specialist" and has this cover:

So basically if I ever bought another copy, I'm buying the UK version.

Oh yeah, it's bleak as hell, but it's told really smartly and extrapolates some super interesting stuff out of its premise.  Which is also why I really want to read This Is How You Die.  I thought Machine of Death was a clever enough anthology but a lot of the stories hit the same points; by all accounts, the sequel is wildly creative.

more books about interesting spins on future death prevention / prediction plz

Yup! Both it and the Savage Sword of Conan are from Buge, a year or so back. Both are amazing.

I'm sure my recipient is already expecting this, but the package is at the local carrier's office; not being delivered because the carrier is watching what's going on out there and going NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE

Thanks to the magic of Beat's package(), I have reunited with an old friend, damn near doubled my Genesis library(with a significant increase in overall quality), and learned Rikku's terrifying secret. Pics forthcoming as soon as I can find my camera(or give up and just use my cell phone).

OH SHIT THIS IS THE THREAD I SHOULD HAVE POSTED IN

Good evening, friends!

My Santa duties have gone somewhat neglected because, while I thought I'd assembled a worthy selection of gifts for my chaps, the remarkable contents of the two packages I received combined with the startling revelations contained within this thread made me begin to second-guess myself. I wound up scouring my residence for overlooked treasures, as well as the homes of a few overburdened friends. Tomorrow, I mail two packages to two neglected little brontoforumites, and then I shall post the great unveiling of the gifts which I have received from Zaratustra and someone who did a very good job of concealing their identity, as I couldn't find a note or name in the second package. So: thanks again, I'm sorry, and let's look forward to a happy Christmas post-script!
