They come at reduced intervals?

Hm. Now THAT'S interesting.
To discourage achievement farming.

I wouldn't be surprised if the old milestones were set back too.

Well, I understand that's why the change was made, I just didn't think they would be repudiating the random drop system quite so hard.

I mean, I know there were massive complaints about the update, but I think most everyone would have been just fine with the old tiers (10/15+1/20+2) given that it would be alongside the random drop system.

Probably would have been, yeah, but like I said: they're low to make achievements mean something again. They aren't so high that you need to farm and they aren't so low that they may as well be giving out the items. Now I just wish hats dropped more. I've heard it's as astronomically low as .3%, but I don't even want to begin to think about believing that.

It's a compromise. I think Valve want the achievements to be something you receive infrequently or work towards for their own sake, an occasional reward for continued play. Tying the unlocks to the achievements rewards players for farming achievements all at once, which defeats the point.

I really like the Cloak and dagger, especially when you hide near the cart and get a big chainstab.

Dead Ringer takes too fucking long to recharge.

Razorback is just fucking useless compared to jarate and even the SMG

SMG is more useful than ever with Huntsman, spraying people down after a midrange bodyshot.

I kind of appreciated what they were trying to do, since they obviously realized that making an item to counter one weapon of one class needed another unlockable in that slot, but the lack of Kukri sidegrade totally ruins that.  Since I'm already being optimistic with this view, I think I'm going to pretend that they wanted to add a boomerang but it was too hard to code.

Willing to put small amounts of money on the real reason being, "Well, we can't really replace the spy's knife, these two watch ideas are really cool, and it's a dual update, so let's leave the kukri since sniper's a ranged class and then just stay here all night until we think of a couple things."

"Stay here all night?  What are you going to do next, strap us to our desks and make us pee in jars???"

One of the problems with the Razorback is the fact that it's clearly visible. It's a warning to Spies, but it also says HEY THIS GUY DOESN'T HAVE SMG OR PISS EQUIPPED when you're confronted by them. It's a rather damning tell.

Yeah, it just means you're going to be shot in the head with Ambassador*.  If it weren't so obvious it would actually be kind of useful.

*almost typed that as Ambadassador, which is a better name IMO.

Found Jarate randomly, which means I have everything I want now, within two days of being back.

The only things I'm missing are Bonk, Razorback, and Dead Ringer.

Yeah, I can live without those.

Hell, I even found the C&D. Though I shortly thereafter earned it with achievements.

Best epic spy unlock ever:

Playing on a pub, I have one achievement so far: Slash and Burn.

I'm running towards the cart. Three enemies are on it, a Sniper, a Medic, and an Engineer. (Who was pushing the cart instead of making shit for some reason.)

I'm disguised as a Sniper. As it so happens, I'm disguised at THAT Sniper.

My fake health is low. I call medic.

Medic turns around, heals me to "full", goes back to healing the engy.

Triple stab Sniper, Medic, Engy.

Achievements earned: Backstab the person you're disguised as, backstab a medic within 5 seconds of him healing you, backstab three people in a row, backstab a medic and his patient, spy milestone 1, Ambassador unlocked.
