Yeah well, my friend at school told me that if you delete all your weapons in the order they were released, you can equip them on ANY CLASS and totally kill people with them. I did it, dude. It's for real.

After deleting my items, I raised Aeris.

Interesting read, especially when Robin goes out and makes fun of the people who deleted their items after being told what would happen.

I'm pretty sure she was actually being sincere.

Robin Walker is a dude, dude.

Interesting read, especially when Robin goes out and makes fun of the people who deleted their items after being told what would happen.

But the most fascinating part is how the interview seems to indicate, without saying so much, the possibility of female models in the future.  She mentions how much Valve wants players to be able to customize appearance, and once you've got individual hats, chest pieces, boots, gloves, etc, it's really hard to justify not putting female models in.

The best justification I've heard, made by someone else in another thread, is that female models would cause much longer loading times, since the computer would have to load twice the number of player models.  I suppose you could set which models you would prefer to load, but that kinda ruins the individuality of it.

Plus it's a lot of work to design entirely new models.  Not to mention having to hire up to nine new voice actresses (Ellen McLain can't voice them ALL).  That's a lot of time and money for a purely cosmetic change.

I would rather them release another class pack than female models.  Note that for the hats, he said that there's no gameplay effect NOW, but they will gauge the player reaction to them, and possibly introduce hat abilities later.

To be clear, I think female models would be cool, I just understand that they will likely never happen.

What?  You didn't know that if you deleted all your stuff you can backstab with every melee weapon?

The reason given by Valve is the reason given by Det. You don't load each player's model individually, you load all nine and then it calls them up as necessary. If they were to include a female version of each class, that would effectively double the memory dedicated to player models.

Don't forget the need for twice the dialogue.

They probably don't have enough room in video memory for another nine player models.

They'd have the room somewhere, they'd just have to raise minimum requirements, which is of course why they won't do it.

Can anyone figure out how many people would be fucked over by them upping the minimum specs?

I looked at Valve's hardware survey and it wasn't much help at all.

If it's less than the number of people who deleted their items (270) I say they should go ahead and fuck 'em.  Sorry doods.

Half the people that play with us play somewhere close to the minimum requirements, and the doubling of character allocated memory is non-trivial. They're probably the most complex and well textured models in the game.

You can however simply not allocate the extra models on low-end computers.  The idea would be to add the models in while keeping the profiles and hit boxes similar.  If someone can't handle, they won't see them, but those of us with beefier computers can appreciate them.

Although in reality it's probably not as simple as that.

And it would be really awkward for someone to be using a female model but half the team sees a guy instead. I can see some REALLY bad gameplay effects from that.

"Two heavies, coming from the right tunnel."
"Try to kill the guy, the other one's low on ammo!"
"... they're both guys."

Yeah, I remember hearing stories about problems like that in Everquest 2.

"Okay, let's meet by the fire next to the bridge."
"What fire?"
"What bridge?"
