Hey, does Windows have an option someplace to disable the trackpad?

No, but if you email Microsoft support, they'll send you a business card and some tape.

Dear Reaperza,

Thank you so much for signing the name of your file, The.Avengers.Earths.Mightiest.Heroes.S02E01.The.Private.War.of.Doctor.Doom.720p.WEB.DL.DD5.1.AAC2.0.H264-Reaperza.mp4.

Otherwise, I never would have known the name of the fucking idiot who decided to give his file such a long name that my NZB reader chokes trying to create it.

(An aside:

Dear Disney XD,

Sometimes it is not okay to omit punctuation.

For example, YOU'RE WATCHING: Ultimate Spider-Man Coming in April DOES NOT MEAN THE SAME THING as "You're Watching: Ultimate Spider-Man.  Coming in April.")

Got a laptop returned with paper taped over the camera.

Now, that's less dumb than the trackpad thing.  Indeed, I can understand and respect a little paranoia about cameras, especially with stuff that's been in the news over the past few years.

But here's the thing: we disable the camera in BIOS before we ship the things out.

Would most users have anything other than your word for that?

Do you understand how terrifying the words “vibrating strap on” are for an asexual? That’s like saying “the holocaust” to a Jew.

Well, here's the thing.

If you're worried about being spied on by your company, then logically you should assume you'll get in trouble for covering up that camera.

If you're worried about getting a virus and being spied on by a third party, then yes you probably should educate yourself on basic computer security.  Because if you're worried that you might accidentally install malware on your computer, someone spying on you through your camera is probably the LEAST likely attack.

And while I absolutely do not think most lusers should be fucking around in the BIOS, we don't put a password on ours and anyone who went in to check the security settings for himself would see that yes indeed the camera was already disabled.
