That's not even a zing, that's a literal.  The Engineer's efforts are to be used by other people.

Following on Madmax's speech, the Engineer is a self-sacrifice gig for those who are not the best at FPS, but want to be part of the team through good support.

There are times when I will quite literally hammer buddy's sentry from level 2 to level three instead of building one myself.  It's that wrench cult thing..

And then there's time where teamwork becomes rewarding to the next level.  For example, on DoubleCross, Patito and I were able to come up with a two-camp system:

Patito was brave enough to construct an advance camp under the enemy intel.  I had my camp by my intel.  I ran a teleporter to his camp, while he ran a teleporter to mine.  As a result, when we thought there was trouble we could be there for each other (as well as offering a way for those who know the intel is stolen to come with a quick defense.  Worked very well.  Had some fun with it to when you get bored.

As far as combat goes, there is hardly a thing in TF2 you cannot kill with 6 well-placed shotgun shots, and I have won wrench fights against demo swordsman.  The pistol is fun for pissing the enemy off in places like goldrush long enough for someone with power to kill.

Now I kinda want Heavy and Vulcan Raven to have an epic team-up.

I also want to sneak up on spies and slit their throat.  With my wrench.

I want to re-enact the scene from Jackal where he puts turret aiming to the 'test' with Engineer and Scout.  Just hold out that pack of smokes, please.

I want a lot of things.
