Having given PVKII a quick go, I have to say that I ARRRtily agree.

Yeah, there's clearly some balance issues but then only 1/3 of the classes are implemented so that may change in future. As it stands now, a Knights team made up of predominantly Heavy Knights should always be able to win the tower defense map by a large margin if they are semi competent and the Pirates should always be able to win the booty maps and the arena with powder-keg spam.

Booty Tag actually seems pretty balanced though since the Pirates are good at taking the booty but can't defend it well, the Knights have the opposite problem, and the Vikings fall somewhere in between. This is good since Booty Tag is my favourite mode anyway.

My favorite mode is "Kill everything, paying no attention to objectives"

The worst problem with the game is that they made combat too fun.  It is perfectly possible to play, and have fun, while losing horribly.  This problem is especially prevalent in Booty Tag, where there isn't even a compass letting you know where the booty is.  I recently played a round for the Knights on pvk_saints where I hid with the Booty between the two wine casks.  It wasn't really a good hiding spot, but a veritable army of Pirates and Vikings ran by me without looking over.  I sat there for two minutes, watching them go by, and won the round.  And afterward, I didn't feel like a winner; I'd rather have left to go fight.

I'm pretty sure they're adding a compass and combat bonuses for the Booty holder in Booty Tag in 2.1.

Is this supposed to be a bad thing?

Been awhile since one of these has happened. But with new Team Fortress 2 updates coming this Sunday, perhaps it is time for another TF2 night?
