Drink tea instead.
Coffee is like vanilla extract. It's nice to smell, but it tastes like hatred.

Ah, there we go. Though, really I drink even tea infrequently. Hell, at times I've even halfheartedly tried to wean myself off the carbonated sugarwater, though not with much success. Really, I've got the Doom thing going on with orange juice.

I've never felt the need to gain a taste for coffee. It's not like people consider you LESS MANLY for not drinking coffee, unless you're in a foxhole being pounded by shells and the only thing to drink is coffee. But I'm pretty sure that were I ever to find myself in such a situation, that not only would any available coffee be unbelieveably terrible by any standard, but that I would probably think it was the tastiest drink ever at that moment.

I do like eating coffee beans though. When they're covered in chocolate. Mmmmm.

Coffee is merely the vehicle through which my cream and sugar travels.  I started drinking about 3 years ago, when I worked at 7-11 and got bored.  Straight coffee is a bit too much for me, so I usually add a few things of creamer and sugar to flavor.

The problem people have with Starbucks isn't necessarily the quality of the drink (though, they've been going through phases.  At one point a new president took over and focused on cheap, quick and profitable coffee.  This sullied Starbuck's image and they've since gone back to focusing on good quality), it's partly their business practices and the fact that they're everywhere.  Up until recently we had an intersection with a Starbucks on each side, it was crazy.  They also tried to make a country bow down to them and not have free-trade control over their beans.  It was pretty awful.

On the flipside, Starbucks treats its rank-and-file employees better than just about every other American corporation aside from Costco.  Conundrum!

Costco treats employees good?

Tell me more, there's a costco being build within a few feet of my house, and applying to work there just potentially got a lot more desirable

To acquire a taste for coffee, slowly wean yourself from sugar and then slowly wean yourself from milkfat. For whatever reason, drip coffee tends to have a very acidic/acrid taste to it that I still can't stand without a little milk to cut it.

My cousin has worked for Costco on and off for about a five years and he loves it.

Exact details are hard to come by, but apparently it's better pay/healthcare than standard for entry-level employees, and the policy on sick or emergency leaves is "it doesn't matter what else, if it's valid, we'll give you paid time off".

Drawback is you usually gotta start part-time and advancement is mainly based on years worked rather than merit, which is typical for retail/grocery.

Seeing as how I work on the intersection mentioned in that bit, I've been considering trying to e-mail him or something since two months ago a new Barnes and Noble went up next to one of the Starbucks.

It has a Starbucks in it.

We have a Target with a Starbucks.
And then they built a statbucks in the parking lot.

I don't really know what it is either. But FUN FACT: in the first quarter of the 20th century, when automats were popular, people often only drank coffee from automats because it, in effect, pressed coffee for you. Home coffee makers were drip systems, which created coffee so bad people would add egg shells so that the calcium would soak up the bad taste.

That's right: people added garbage to coffee to make it taste better.

Or, to put it another way

Love coffee in most of it's forms.

Used to drink it with a lot of creamer, but only a tablespoon of Hazelnut and Cinnamon.

Black coffee is amazing when you have something sweet. Like a pie.

For the record, I hiked over to Starbucks today. It was actually pretty awful. IT was uncomfortably hot, which depending on the mood I'm in and the tempature outside isn't a bad thing, but the actual taste was horrid! There is something enjoyable there, but was behind a wall of dirt and refuse.

The nice Barista forgot about me, and told me I could have a free drink for making me wait for so long and on her recommendation I tried a vanilla frappichino which was completely and TOTALLY delicious, though I'm sure high in calories.

In any case, I think I found my preferred method of coffee ingestion.

I warned you about Starbucks bro.  I told you dog.

If they still make green tea lattes though, those are delicious.

Yyler: Despite my initial temptation for the "eggnog latte" on the menu, I asked her for "just a thing of coffee" with cream.

And I did add sugar, several times with a few sips inbetween doses and stirring. Probably far more than most would.

Sounds like fancy-pants latte or cappuccino is what you should stick with, at least for the time being.  Regular coffee is something of an acquired taste, as well as figuring out what you need in it to be palatable for you.
