don't like the game all you want!  just don't cry about the tank controls.  they take all of fifteen minutes to get used to.

niku, don't defend tank controls, because it makes you automatically wrong.

In a brilliant coincidence, I just five days ago completed my first ever playthough of RE2, and I happened to do Claire A and Leon B.

Thoughts:

I do not even notice the tank controls. However Norondor has a point in that it can be frustrating trying to dodge zombies in tight hallways because of them.

I liked it a lot. Mr. X randomly popping out of walls to beat the shit out of you was great and added spice to what otherwise was just a simple replay.

INVENTORY SYSTEM:

FUCK

YOU

Whhhhhhhhhhhhyyyyyyy did they revert back to this piece of shit system in RE5 RE4 was sooo much better if still limited

I also find it pretty annoying to aim (esp. up/down) in the older RE games, mostly Code Veronica. Like, cool overhead moody camera angle dudes but uhhhh i can't tell if this ground if even or quite where i'm looking.

oh yeah true sometimes the camera angles will make you miss. that is also annoying.

RE2 wasn't perfect and it probably could have been made better by

1. no tank controls
2. over the shoulder camera or first person
3. ^ eliminates odd camera shit
4. infinite inventory space for non-combat items

But overall I enjoyed it despite these flaws. Tank controls is barely a flaw. Mostly it's just the camera and the fact that you can only carry like two things.

Yeah. I'm not gonna say that it's unplayable or Just Bad or anything else. It's irksome, so i don't like playing it all that much, given that i pretty much know the plot and such.

yeah i actually am so behind limited amount (if plentiful) of saves that it makes my eyes glitter because it adds to the tension in a very real way and that is what survival horror is all about

but yeah without a temp save option it is fucking wrong

The best survival horror game is Dragon Quarter.

Yes.

Regarding a remake: tank controls are the lazy way out. Since ICO we've had games able to capture the inertia of human movement (in 3d). It seems like that's a better way to do a survival horror scheme, now that we've had a few games show us how it's done. Of course, like Niku I'm a bit :hurr: for the extra challenge that bad controls add. How is it any more or less artificial than a rooster key as an obstacle for your advancement?

Resident Evil 1-3 and I think also Code Veronica all came out before ICO. Are you doing this on purpose?

For that matter, while Silent Hill 2 came out at the same time as ICO did (and therefore couldn't benefit from its example), Silent Hill 3's 3D controls actually served to demonstrate tank-controls' superiority for fixed-camera environments. The 3D controls were unmanageable when combined with loadless screen transitions, particularly if you needed to flee something (which was demonstrated more powerfully with Silent Hill 4). Tank controls aren't perfect, but sometimes they're the best control design for the job.

I was talking about a hypothetical remake. As bad as I am with dates I do at least remember that I was playing RE2 on the playstation and that ICO was a PS2 game. Sorry for not being clear on that. I've edited the original to include the preface that it should have included in the first place.

I'd like to make a comment about what newbie said, but I haven't played any silent hill. :;_;:

RE5 had good multiplayer gameplay but the story sucked.  It's worth it for the two-player action, but it's not a game you want to play alone.

Yyler and i played through in co-op mode. It was fun! But the game sucks anyway.

Taking away SP upgrades was a very very bad idea.
