Yeah, probably. Ten minutes after I complained about it, guess what: I beat him with no trouble whatsoever.

Picked this up over the weekend, about five hours in.  So far it's a very pretty railroaded plot.

Holy shit, Odin was a dick.

I like how the game is actively trying to keep the actual gameplay itself from you for as long as possible.
Lightning finally gets her Eidolon, and she has four ATB segments with which to rock the fuck out, and the story switches to Sazh and Vanille who accomplish literally nothing beyond getting from point A to point B. Then when we finally switch back to Lightning and Hope and... we're forced to play as Hope.
It's not all that bad, though. Getting a chance to to play as a Support-oriented character rather than one of the fighters provided a nice little change of pace. Still, I want to murder things with my four ATB segments and my level ten sword of death.

EDIT: the game switches points of view just as things are getting interesting. It's almost exactly like Bleach.

Just picked this up today.

I remember a glitch in Secret of Mana that could, potentially permanently remove a character from the party.  The script proceeded as though they were there, but they weren't, no character status display on the HUD.  The sprite just ceased to exist for me.

What I'm getting at is "Can I have the same thing happen to Hope?  Please?"

Eh, Hope doesn't really annoy me. That honor goes to the 'adorable' characters in Mist Walker games like Marumaro and Cooke and Mack. Hope is just a little pissy because his mom dies. And, he spends a good portion of the game scheming to murder Snow, so he's really not all bad.

I would feel the same way about Vanille, except that it's mainly her dialogue that kind of appauls me.

Hey, game.  hey.

At that junk-pile portion of the game, why can't I just shuffle my party around?

Also, CONGRATULATIONS, Snow on your
lesbian motorcycle
!

Now be out of commission for a few hours.  :3c

I'm over twenty hours in and only now am I able to choose who is in my party. Still can't choose who I actually get to play, but that can't be too far away, can it?

... Can it?

Okay.  I made it to Gran Pulse.  Does this mean the tutorial is over now?  I'd like to play the game now.

Yes, the tutorial is over and so is most of the game unless you really like sidequests.

...And if you do, then the game is only about a third of the way over.

Hold the FUCKING phone.

I just noticed that in battle, Snow's coat has a rather large emblem on the back, but out of battle, there's nothing.

WHAT THE HELL, NOMURA.

The Emblem is what you equip as his weapon.

...really.

Huh.  I should read item descriptions more.

STILL, IT MAKES NO FUCKING SENSE.

OH!  A LITTLE DECAL ON THE BACK OF MY JACKET MAKES ME ABLE TO PUNCH THINGS HARDER!

A thing in my final fantasy makes no sense!  I DEMAND TO KNOW WHO IS RESPONSIBLE!

Seriously though, it would have been nice if the decal showed outside battles, too.  Everyone's weapons, for that matter, rather than the default models.

This is what I'd call a Nomura curveball.  It's a hem designed to look like a zipper.

However, the first image I viewed when looking up that character was this.  On first glance, I wondered if she had dollar bills stuffed in her bra, but that's actually a bikini-ish top worn over a button-down shirt, which is fucked up in and of itself.

Yeah, it's a stupid thing to get hung up on, but I haven't played that many games with character designs by Tetsuya Nomura, and I'd rather not be used to that sort of thing.
