« on: July 30, 2011, 09:52:16 AM »

This game looks hella rad and I was wondering if anyone wanted to get a 4 pack going on this.

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/07/29/thoughts-on-e-y-e-divine-cybermancy/

During the launch week sale the four pack comes out to $13.49 per copy.

"The multiplayer, teamplay, co-op modes directly influence solo play, and vice-versa. The limits of solo and multiplayer games are finally left behind."

I have no clue what that means exactly, but it has full co-op from what I hear. Last time I was excited for a game that just came out of the blue was Brink, but hey at least this game isn't 50 bucks!

Wow, did they just try to make "absolutely no difference between co-op and solo play" a perk?

Nabbed a copy.  Forums seem to be complaining a bit about 'Fatal Wounds', negative stats that build up from dying too often, no way to remove them.  Dev comment was "We will remove them if it gets annoying."  Mention of a PvP mode later on.  Looks like the thing is a labor of love.  Looks worth the entry price, will know more after it installs.

So far this is pretty damn weird. I seem to be pretty bad at finding enemies, though they always seem to know where I am somehow. Like I'll do a 360 degree turn not see anything. Then all of the sudden behind me is a enemy? I'm not sure if they have some kind of stealth ability or what have ya, but they can be incredibly sneaky.

I haven't figured out stealth yet, and it seems that when you are spotted in a level it pretty much means that you have to kill everyone in the level. There was a point where I went underground after being spotted and killed a few dudes, and when I came back up there were a few guys waiting to shoot me. The levels definitely are big enough for the guys to have walked all the way there, but it is weird in an FPS for guys at the end of the level to be pissed at you for killing dudes at the beginning of it.

Edit: Oh I just read that there is enemy spawning.

Foor some reason this game just sounds like it's made for Co-Op lik eyou need a buddy to watch your back while your hacking something. I also did not figure out that you need to click your type of hacking more then once because the tutorial just shows him clicking it once and suddenly working.

Hacking is completely baffling to me, to be honest. Like you start a hack, and you have four options. So if you're hacking a door, you're given the option to try to take it over, or make it attack its allies, or to attack it directly. Since the only thing remotely close to "force it open" is to attack it, you choose attack. Then you're trying to beat the computer in a hacking fight, where you have four methods of attack - direct, mine for information (this doesn't seem to do anything because it doesn't tell you what you have learned), defend (why), and something else. After clicking a few of the other ones, I just start hitting attack a bunch of times and the door opened.

They should probably include in their tutorial some kind of explanation as to what the fuck I am doing here exactly

I sometimes wish the game was a bit brighter, even though I love the setting and understand it's a really corrupt world, black on black with the occasional gold and brown makes it kind of hard to aim.

Yeah, agreed. Keep waiting for when I get out under the sky, rather than another dimly-lit cathedral.

Some bits kind of remind me of Blame though, which is pretty cool.

The coop multiplayer is even more hectic than the solo missions. The areas can turn into huge battlezones if you get certain objectives. For example I had a mission in New Haven where one of my objectives involved the chinese hat dudes, so they were constantly fighting the federation throughout the mission. If you have the cloak implant it makes the game a lot more interesting, since you don't get bogged down with half of the enemies in the area making their way to get killed by you. You can actually maneuver around patrol groups and take out snipers on the upper levels.

Hacking is wacky as all get out because you have the attack button which takes down the enemy hp (the objective of hacking), but there are the options to lower enemy attack, lower enemy defense, raise your own defense, and overload which sacrifices defense for attack. The AI will actually use the status effect actions to fuck your shit up. I have no advice for this so far, but if you lose the hacking and you don't blow up, you can hack yourself to undo the "HACKED" overlay. I think it did something at least.

Also the HQ is a death trap and I love seeing dudes randomly explode on the staircases. In the grimdark future of year 15, I WARNED YOU ABOUT THE STAIRS BRO!

Oh there is magic nightvision you can get that supposedly makes things brighter, highlights human enemies, and makes it hard to see any of the non-human monster things.
