2014: The Year of Obamacare and More Dumb Elections
« on: July 10, 2013, 05:18:41 AM »

Making a tradition out of this, I suppose.

It's another midterm election, and the Republicans have some teeth to come back and possibly turn the Senate around.

Mongrel, back in the 2012 thread, found a neat breakdown of the senators up for re-election.  I was wondering if we could find one of those again.

The two big things that Republicans have to mobilize their base:

1. The Obamacare pushback for employer mandates last weekend.

2. NSA.

Regarding that second point, given the length of memory of the average voter, the Republicans could easily frame the NSA datamining stuff as "All Obama's Fault."

I also don't think the economy is going to play much to it, as the economy is still on the mend after 2012.

Given the memory span if the average voter I doubt the NSA kerfluffle's going to have much direct impact by then.

#3 is voter suppression.

I think it's pretty clear at this point that a good big chunk of the Republican Party has no intention of trying to appeal to Latinos and instead is counting on just preventing them from voting.
