TF2 Beta
« on: December 07, 2010, 04:51:51 AM »

An interesting curiosity.  Now I can earn achievements without farming!  YAAAAAAAY

In other news, the three new Natascha variants.  The first is the current form of Natascha with the Heavy's original spin up/rev down time.  The second has a damage/speed falloff, and the third slashes Heavy's HP down to 225.

Holy shit.

Natascha is OP.

*Jumps over heavy's head, shoots him to death*

I don't really think Natascha needs a nerf, but it's so goddamn annoying I'll take one anyway.

I'm actually surprised thats what Valve is focusing on. It's certainly a pain in a competitive, highly organized, low player count scenario, but it's no skin of their back if they have to ban it. From what I've heard from Patito, it's not like the Nat got any better from when I last played.  Ah well, I still think it's cool that they're doing this, even if I don't play anymore.

You know speaking of "What is Valve focusing on", I would just like to say that more than anything else, I wish they were working on making more maps official.

I don't care if they source the community for them or make them themselves, but hats and the occasional oddball unlock change things very very little overall, whereas new maps make a great deal of difference. Nothing is going to help reduce boredom levels more than new maps will.

Yes, there's a fuckton of custom maps. It's just that making them official gives them slightly better balance vetting AND makes sure you don't have the "what is this custom map?" everyone-drops-off-the-server problem.

Holy shit.

note that the slowdown now has fucking distance falloff

no more getting dinged by a heavy halfway across the map and coming to a screeching halt

The ability for a Heavy to have any effect at all on enemies farther away than medigun range is the best thing Natascha has going for it, and if they get rid of that ability then the weapon will become pretty much pointless.

The biggest complaint I have with Natascha is that once you turn a corner and start getting shot, it's really hard to get back into cover without dying.

The correct reaction to that is to jump, the miniguns will push you pretty far while you're in the air, so it's pretty easy to get away from them, this is good advice for encounters with any heavies. Approaching natasha is the problem.

Anyway, right now the tf2beta is pretty useless while crafting is still enabled on it.
