I'm wondering if bohemia will make an official Day Z mode for arma 3, it wouldn't be a huge amount of work on their part, and they've seen how it can help sell the game. Plus, it'd probably get integrated better if it's official.

If they didn't agree with how shitty Rocket has been handling this mod, they would have probably swooped in to stop him. But since he is making Arma 2 the bestselling game right now, I don't think they want to mess with what he is doing.

Edit: He rolled back a lot of the zombie changes in a hotfix. My favorite change in there was he raised the makarov spawn rate and made zombies drop makarov mags. THANKS ROCKET I WILL SOMEHOW GET THESE THINGS FROM THE DEAD ZOMBIES I KILLED WITH MY NO GUN.

Isn't how awful the game is being made right in line with the Arma gameplay experience?

anal-retentive detail at the cost of all fun?

Yes, except while Arma is trying to make a military sim, Rocket is sperging out about really stupid things and laughing at the "carebears" who don't like their balls kicked in by awful game design.

Quote
To save this mod, they should continue not giving makarovs to newly spawned players, but everyone gets a shiny new bicycle with a basket and a bell that rings and things to make it look good. Every player must engage in an inadvertent triathlon to reach the flashest, rarest gear like thermal scoped L85s and rusty toolboxes and anti-tank mines and paper maps.

Further, they should replace all weapon spawns with cars and trucks and such, and relaunch it as the first 100% militarily accurate Carmaggedon simulator. The player with the fastest laps, most wrecks, and most splattered zombies is declared King/Queen of the Server, and is granted the largest possible vehicle modded in ARMA 2 to impose divine mandates.

Edit: Well I guess you can lose zombies now, instead of them chasing you until either they die or you do.

To be honest, I think the ridiculous amount of detail is what makes simulators fun! Like in a game like GTA, it's expected that you'll do crazy stuff. But when you pull off great stunts or rambo a mission or make a ridiculous bus covered in guns, it's more entertaining and hilarious because it feels like more of an accomplishment.

Just watched some Day Z footage. It reminds me of a multiplayer STALKER in many ways. Which just makes me remember that that would be even better.

I can't imagine a better or less indicative of the actual experience new player experience than this (actual fun starts at about 24 minutes).

Standalone to be released this year.

Bohemia Interactive would like to thank the hundreds-of-thousands of people that made their three-year-old-game-with-an-announced-sequel such a smash success by charging you again.

Hey, if this means DayZ will be a properly developed game instead of a clunky addon to a clunky engine, I'll gladly pay for it.

The only thing better would be if he came back out of the sky and landed right on the guy.
