Some LPer I'm subscribed to made a video of this, and after like 5 minutes I thought "man I wish this was on Steam", and I looked and it was, so I turned off youtube and bought it immediately.
It's pretty short; I just now finished it after three hours. I'm not sure if I can recommend it at fifteen bucks. It's gorgeous, smooth, has great music, and it rivals Madworld in the over-the-top violence-fest department, but it's also a straight-up ancient and limited genre (2D side-scrolling beat'em-up with some platforming) and is made entirely out of clichés. It's Desperado + Kill Bill, running on testosterone and played with a straight face no matter how ridiculous the deaths get*. There's even an obvious we-wish-we-had-Steve-Buscemi character. I think you can argue that it's all homage though. Clearly the developers had love in their hearts for everything they put in there.
*: (
The gimp boss is defeated by yanking off his nipple chains, a feat accomplished easily once you find out you can distract him by throwing furries at him.
I can't believe I just typed the previous sentence, and I also find it difficult to believe I still like the game after that.)
In the end I did enjoy it. In a way, it reminds me of On the rain-slick precipice of darkness (at least in part because the 2D art is strikingly similar) but with all the humor replaced by cartoony-yet-stylish bloodshed. And, you know, not a turn-based RPG.
dang i got to start saving up my hyphens, i am almost out
