Shooting in a Wisconsin Temple

As sad as just changing the title to "Shootings" would be, well:

Gunman opens fire in Sikh temple in Wisconsin, kills 7

They've been finding chemical bombs in that area, too.  Unsure of the significance, but probably not a coincidence.

Do you understand how terrifying the words “vibrating strap on” are for an asexual? That’s like saying “the holocaust” to a Jew.

HE THOUGHT THEY WERE MUSLIMS

Likely, though I haven't seen it confirmed.

What HAS apparently been confirmed was that he was a vocal white supremacist.  Kinda hoping that stuff didn't start until AFTER he finished his military service, because I can't say as I support giving military training to people who sing about wanting to shoot Jews.

Quote
The victims were identified as Sita Singh, 41; Ranjit Singh, 49; Satwant Singh Kaleka, 65; Prakash Singh, 39; Paramjit Kaur, 41; and Suveg Singh, 84.

And that's an easy thing to gloss over in stories like this: these were people.  They had names.

The people who run the corner store near me apparently go to that place every sunday. Luckily they usually go an hour later than when this happened.

:\ this makes me feel much more sick than the movie theater shootings. The body count is lower, but at least the movie theater guy probably had the excuse that he's crazy to fall back on. This guy is just a thickneck racist.

As far as I've learned, Sikhs view themselves as protectors of the oppressed and persecuted, regardless of origins or beliefs; in a very real way theirs is a warlike religion, but they are guardians and defenders. They wear a ritual knife in their daily life as a reminder of their duty to protect the weak from violence and are forbidden from using it offensively. Honestly, if I had to pick another religion for myself Sikhism would be higher on the list than most.

By any account they would take a bullet to save a Muslim.

(Not that I'm saying this makes it all right of course, quite the opposite.)

So he was a member of a white supremecist punk band, called End Apathy. He was kicked out when his girlfriend started sleeping with another band member. This happened recently.

did a white supremacist just kill a temple full of people to impress his ex girlfriend?

It depends on how white-supremecy-ish his girlfriend is.

More like having your girlfriend leave you is a traumatic event and, in the case of somebody who's already dangerous and unstable, can really cause a violent breakdown.

But I'm not really comfortable engaging in that sort of conjecture.  My first thought on hearing he was in the Army was "untreated PTSD"; it's become clear since that he served during the Clinton Administration, did NOT fight in the Middle East, and if he had untreated PTSD it most likely had nothing to do with his military service.

Appears, BTW, that he was given an administrative discharge after being drunk and AWOL, so the Army seems to have handled the situation correctly.

I still kinda think "guy who was kicked out of the Army for having an alcohol problem and now sings about murdering minorities" should pull up a red flag when you go to buy a gun.
