Tera Online
« on: May 31, 2012, 05:25:36 AM »

Ok so I'm pretty horrible at making these new threads, but I'm going to highlight some of the gameplay of Tera Online.

Story 3/10
First off is the story, it's got a interesting bit, but it doesn't happen till later in the game and by then you don't really care, however there are some moments where a quest will make you feel like a boss for completing it.

Combat 9/10
The game is not without faults in it's combat system, however it is enjoyable. Some of the melee classes feel a bit too close together, however they both have unique sides to them. The game does use standard skill keys of 1-9, but

The Berserker is a very slow but high powered 2 handed axe wielder who charges up most of his attacks.

The slayer is a 2handed sword user who relies on quick attacks and critical hits.

Then you have our two variations of ranged dps which are the Archers and Sorcerors. Remember this game is about aiming right? Well That's where these two have the most fun. If an enemy is in the air your attacks can miss if your not aiming just that right sweet spot. Archers from what i hear are plagued with having to be in melee range for doing the most efficient dps, though this often decreases your Survivability alot. Sorcerors are your general blow everything up and don't give a damn.

Tanking in this game is done by two classes though I don't ever recommend a Warrior tank as of right now. (A later patch to come fixes them.) Lancers are your general sword and board and often your best bet for tanking. Though to be the best lancer you have to play as a little girl. This was due to KTera trying to give unique flare to the classes by giving them different hitboxes. While they don't have the greatest tanking racials in the game, they make up for it with the longest reach, and the smallest hitbox which is important in pvp.

Healing is also pretty fun, and it's quite easy in the beginning. For an "action" mmo, you have a recticle for healing as well which gives you lock on spells where you aim and the target becomes green and you can choose another one.  Both the Priest and mystic have that ability. However there are some major differences between the two classes. Priest are your general burst healers, laying down giant circles of healing, as well as giving some handy buffs, and through the use of a glyph you have a way to give mana back to the party. (Some classes do not start with mana and gain it through combat.) Mystics are very much different and from what I've seen depend on the party following the mystics orbs he lays down. The Mystic can lay two kinds of orbs down, which are Health and Mana orbs. They also have very different buffs for the priest so depending on the party makeup what healer you take can be important. As for resurrection spells, you can do so in combat as many times as you need, even other players can res through the power of scrolls. However Priest and Mystic are the only ones that can res multiple times.

Interface 7/10

I really like the interface and how you can move everything around how you like, I do not like however that you can't edit how many bars you have nor can you change the size of said bars. So to those who like to be mod heavy, this may tick you off more than I.

Side Note
The beginning area is absolutely horrible and is about as bad as old barrens chat. I'll try to get some videos up here soon once I get a bit more time. My IGN is Tomoya and I play on the Valley of Titans server.

Edit: I forgot to mention the skill system of combat. When you use a skill certain abilities can chain into other skills. Like with my heals I can chain my heal into a aoe cleanse, or into another powerful heal depending on which one I'm using. The dps also has plenty of combos that often end in the knockdown spell of the class.

Edit 2: Character customization. I sound horrible with my cold. Tera Aman Character Creation

Psy's playing this game, and quite enjoying it.  The combat seems to really be the selling point - that and the outlandish Anime Vallejo ++ art design - as the rest of the game is very Standard MMO.
