Blokus

Rules

Hi.  In the past, when I wanted to get people to play a game, I'd make up some kind of league or tournament and get signups and it would more or less guarantee that nobody on Earth would ever play that game again.

This time, for a change of pace, I'll just ask the following.

If I were to IM you at random and say "hey, do you want to play Blokus?" would you occasionally oblige?

Blokus, if you don't know, is a very simple, very clever board game that, in rather progressive fashion, the game's publisher has made available for free, no strings attached.  You don't even need to register.

The object is to put as many of your pieces down as you can before you can't place any more.  Each square you put on the board gives you 1 point, and the person with the most points at the end wins.*

Classic Blokus is a four player game, which I find astoundingly cool.  Blokus Duo is preferable for 2-player matches.

I messed around with Blokus when Zara suggested it for last year's Pyolympics, but I never really realized how clever the game is until just a few days ago when I bought a physical copy.  It may have won a ton of awards, but I think it probably deserves to be recognized as the best tabletop game since Chess.

And if you must know, Lady Duke routinely kicks my ass at it.

So let's damn hell play fuck.

* In effect, anyway; the actual scoring involves subtracting your remaining squares from your score, but there is no meaningful difference.

This will work better than my cries of 'Hey, lets try and round up some people for Sea3D (Catan)!'

When I'm not at the office, I'd be happy to play.

The game has a very simple learning curve, and you can develop interesting strategies after only a couple plays.  Games don't take too long either.
