WAIT TWO YEARS PAY TEN DOLLARS!

Just got to Chapter 7, game rules hard. I like the way it effortlessly bounces between "You are alone and will die screaming" to "You just survived that, rock on."

Re Flamethrower hate: Flamethrower will absolutely dominate brutes
and crawly head/hands
and is basically why I lug the thing around(aside from general panic button.) I'm currently using Cutter/Force/Pulse/Flame and I have not encountered anything I could not deal with yet so it's pretty hard to justify power node money for a new bit of dakka.
Chapter 6 was fucking terrifying because if I can't kill it that means it is always chasing me and might leap out of a vent at any time and oh god nothing is sacred

Man I laughed when the exploding necros showed up in the greenhouse. Oh hey, necromorphs that die twice as fast!

Leviathan was too easy but maybe that's because Kinetic is an I Win Button if anything in the environment is applicable.
Am I the only person who played through the entire game with the Cutter just because I thought spending money on health and armour was a better idea?

Plasma Cutter's the only weapon you need. It's like the pistol in RE4, only way moreso.

(for the record, you have to upgrade the pistol once to beat RE4 -- without at least one upgrade to power, you can't have enough ammo to kill Salazar when you fight him even with an inventory 100% full of pistol rounds)

I like some things in Dead Space but not the game itself, because it feels like a 13 year old's idea of what a horror game should be, but with a huge budget so it looks nice. I do know I was never going to not use the cutter but then I forgot the game existed entirely.

Line gun is also acceptable, but not as cool.

My thoughts on the Line Gun: "Wait, this thing has an alt-fire?"

I like some things in Dead Space but not the game itself, because it feels like a 13 year old's idea of what a horror game should be, but with a huge budget so it looks nice.

The Zero Punctuation guy put it pretty well. Something like:
Quote from: Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw
I've heard people praise how scary it is, but all it really does is startle and that's not difficult. I was startled when a possum jumped into my window. That doesn't make it the marsupial answer to Stanley Kubrick.
...
I guess you could say that I find it lacking in atmosphere, which is appropriate when you think about it

Oh god, I agree with Yahtzee? I'll be in the garage with a stool and some rope.

The Force Blast also one-shots
Head and Hand Crawly!
Well at least flame-thrower still busts brutes.

Starting Chapter 10 hoo-ray.
Intense lawls at a single necromorph infecting an entire military vessel.
Doom, it is critical that you let the final boss kill you.

Reached Chapter 11 before bed time.
Second Regenerator fight ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff
So amazing bit of gun-related manliness. During the
puzzle-escape from second regenerator
, I was using the force blaster to keep the necros down. I get near the door right before a necro gauntlet and need to use a med-kit and reload and generally keep
regenerator
down for the count. I open fire and he's blown through a closed door. The gauntlet glitches out and doesn't spawn, but bossy cunt tells me to wait and eventually opens the locked door behind the gauntlet like normal!

This is cool because I died on that gauntlet the first time and apparently the Force Blaster is such a great and powerful kinetic cannon that it can punch holes through game code and reality. Hoo-ray!

Frocto I swear to make it so, probably unintentionally.
I am pretty sure the only reason Leviathan did not kill me was that you'd have to eat like 8 tentacle swipes in a row to even risk it. Though I guess this is just Medium difficulty.
Sup Max Air + Health nodes first.

Frocto I assume
you meant for the last boss to eat me rather than just tentacle-smash me. That was delightfully graphic!

No wonder Dead Space 2 is gettin' hyped, that was the most abrupt cliff-hanger ending I've seen since inFamous.
All in all pretty good game, would've paid $20-$30 for it, will have to give Impossible a go in the future.

My roommate had me too spooked with his warning:
"It shares aspects of all the previous monsters." Didn't help that I had to reload twice with my Pulse Rifle. That was pretty close!
Did you not upgrade any of your guns at all? I had the Pulse Rifle max upgraded and I went into that battle with 3 full clips for all four of my guns + about eight medpacks.
I only used maybe 100 pulse rifle rounds total.

It took maybe 4-8 bullets per yellow pod.

I had to stand ram-rod straight for two minutes for it to actually kill me either time.
Mine had a capacity of at least 125 rounds with maxed out damage. I also ran out of bullets in Chapter 1 on hard mode and like the TF2 Pyro, so I guess I'm just a lousy shot.
Also, I just watched the consequences of screwing up on Youtube. OF COURSE it spits you out to let you writhe in pain before finishing you off!
:barf:
