I found this game very relaxing in a bonsai tree like way.

I'm impressed by it since it's a 48hr competition game. But then I've always enjoyed this guy's stuff.

Who needs Agricola when I have yet an other great 48 hour competition game that doesn't take forever to set up or play.

okay so it turns out this game is significantly better if you realize you can press "s" and go underwater

instead of just endlessly catching bugs for an hour like i did the first time while assuming that "warp drive" was just a troll upgrade you would never get

I played as far as the endless Mars swimming section which seems intentionally designed to eat as much CPU as possible before I gave up because games that just intentionally troll the player are not my thing. Even Kazz's ek2 area didn't cause slowdown.

I didn't mind the swimming section there, but then I didn't encounter any slowdown either.  Overall I'm still too annoyed with my first experience with the game to give it two thumbs up, but it's at least worth checking out.

the text adventure section did a really good job of reminding me why I don't play text adventures. On the whole I'd say it's a protracted joke that's mildly to moderately funny.

So someone wrote a crossover fanfiction of Italo Calvino's Invisible Cities and this XKCD in text adventure format. It is surprisingly good! I'd recommend trying it even if you don't like parser-based IF; the entire game is controlled with keywords, both the actions you can currently do and the items in your inventory. Occasionally this leads to the frustrating adventure game problem of trying your inventory on everything in the game, but other than that it works out pretty well.

If you DO love old school text adventures, there's also Counterfeit Monkey by Emily Short, which is a big (like, 8-10 hours long playing normally) word-play game with both easy and hard modes. I haven't played very far into it, but I have liked what I've seen so far.

Arena and Daggerfall are free; not sure if that's going to be a permanent thing or not but I'm putting it in this thread.

Any idea if these are patched?  Daggerfall was literally unbeatable out of the box.

Daggerfall's been free for a while, so I'm pretty sure that's not gonna change, and yeah, it's probably patched.

This is probably as good a time as any to remind everybody that the original SimCity is open-source.

The Java port looks like a recent thing -- which would explain why there's no Android port as yet.  Wonder what that would take.  Seems like it'd work fine on touchscreens but would probably need bigger icons to hit them precisely.
