OK, unusable is a harsh word. 'DPS capped a lot earlier than many loadouts and classes' is a better phrasing. They improved sandman damage and scaling and gave scout a lot more options for their rotations than Pst/FaN/Sand/Fan or 6x Scatter.

I won't deny that Scouts had and have it better than others, but that does not change that there are some fundamental problems with talents and abilities, and until they added the Double-Jump glyph, Speed had a pretty colossal leg up over the other two specs. I'm not including Bonk! in this, as I simply don't feel it was intended to be a real Scout spec (as evidenced by them making it completely terrible in 6.20.) at launch.

I just saw a Pyro beat a Heavy in a 1v1 fight outside the first cap point of dustbowl part 2.

Yeah, I'm quitting this game guys.  I just can't muster up the free time that seems to be required to get anywhere in it.

Man, I just cannot play Heavy any more.  It feels like every single thing in the game is designed to kill him nowadays.  You may as well wear a giant sign on your back that says "Please headshot/critnade/bonk/backstab me."

I wouldn't mind all of that as much if it didn't also take twice as long to get to do anything as the other classes

Been feelin' that for a while now. I figure Heavy has became nigh-unplayable on his own. Pretty much the class can only be used with good teamwork with a medic.

God help the fat boy when the sniper update hits.

The heavy update, which was SUPPOSED to lessen his reliance on a medic, didn't help that at all

Maybe giving sandvich a secondary "EAT WHILE MOVING" thing would help

The worst part of it is that even as Medic I don't want glom onto Heavies like I'm supposed to any more.  That extra time it takes to get from Point A to Point B is just more time for Spies and Snipers to aim for me, and if that gun isn't already spinning then I am mou shinderu if a Pyro gets within 50 feet of us.

It doesn't quite help that most of the decent players seem to be of the same mind.  Yes, Bal and Friday, there are occasional unstoppable killing dispensers every once in a while, but more often than not the really talented players seem to want to grind points as the more or less self-sufficient Demoman.

One of the things I find really hurts the Heavy more and more these days is just how short his clip is. I'm not sure if increasing it to 250 or 300 would be fair, broken, or irrelevant, but it's one idea anyway. At the very least, it's the #1 reason the Sandvich doesn't see more use, since the shotgun is desperately needed as ammo backup.

I mean, it's more than enough to hold a point, but it's hard to really get a good long offensive push with a Heavy anymore, unless you're pushing a cart on a payload map.

Other ideas, such as changing the spinup time of the gun, decreasing it's random spread by a tiny margin, or making the Heavy faster might be a little too unbalancing. But I don't really know. What do you guys think?

The shotgun isn't ammo backup, the shotgun is there so you can kill people while you're on the move. But anyway, playing heavy has always been about being one step ahead of your team, and then retreating a bit to replenish ammo or health; I don't think this has ever changed.

Mobility is only really an issue if there's no teleporters.

They also did reduce the spread of the minigun a tiny bit in some update, I'm not sure if they broke that in later updates though.

And I don't really see the problem with pyros if you're not spinning your gun, you can use your shotgun on them easily or punch them if they get too close and aren't poofing you away.

You can also camp dispensers to be a self-healing turret. Works wonders on PL defense, and your engis won't complain about you watching their stuff.
