I will almost always try to knock off the sapper first and immediately (moving around to the other side of it from where the Spy is, of course), because I find if I hesitate at all, my second swing will land just as the sentry finishes falling apart, whereas if I can get it working again, I will at least be avenged.

Every time I see an engineer like that, I just keep my disguise up and try to beat him at a battle of attrition. It always works if he has more than the gun up. It's really sad if his teammates let it happen, though.

Yeah, that's basically my engie strat, with the caveat that I am frequently trying to dodge while wrenching. If I die, but my stuff stays up, that's not ideal, but it's a damn sight better than the opposite outcome. Plus, if the spy decloaks, a functioning sentry will do my job for me.

A live Engineer is worth more than an unattended sentry, really.  You can build a new sentry much faster than you can respawn, while on the flipside a sentry without anyone around to heal it can be taken down by pretty much any class that can get a decent angle.

Again, for sentry-destruction soldier and sniper are my choice rounds.  There's always (except in badwater and goldrush) angles to wish a sentry can be exploited to it's downfall.

Well, it depends on what your respawn is, how critical the location is (and how long it takes to get there) and how much your teammates will protect the sentry in your absence.

career engineers like... Doom

:oic:

Yeah, Doom, much like even the mighty Bal, played a shit ton of Engineer when the game first came out. We all did, it's a cool class to a beginner, it just gets really boring fast is all.

Playing engineer rules and is tons of fun... unless you're guarding the intel and the rest of the players are just grinding against each other in one main area.

If a spy saps something, what I do depends on what he does. If he runs away, I whack the sapper off. Sometimes from a little ways they try to shoot you, so if your sentry is up, they die! Otherwise they just keep running and my sentry is okay for a bit (til they come back and try to shoot me because of what happened before).

If they sap and run around sapping whatever I fix, or it looks like they will, I wrench my building while circling it to get to the spy and kill him, usually in two whacks. It helps if I am in a corner, or against a wall, but of course demos and pyros can take advantage of that kind of placement in a lot of areas.

If the spy is crafty, I usually die, or lose my buildings killing him, but rarely both. Unless he is smart enough to stab and sap properly, that is.

Today I made my mark as a demoman. I can successfully play it decently at times. Goal achieved.
