Now that I've fought against it firsthand, the Wrangler appears to represent yet more bad news for Heavies.

Tonight I foolishly decided I'd try to get some Engineer achievements rather than playing as a class I actually like (and I'd like to apologize to anyone who had to suffer through the consequences of this decision). I thought that one of the unlocks would make the class more fun, sort of the way the Huntsman is necessary to enjoy being a Sniper. But the more I think about it, the more it seems to me that this is very unlikely. The Frontier Justice is useless when I'm dead, when the main reason a building of mine dies is because I wasn't alive to distract the enemy from it long enough for a teammate to save it. The Wrangler subverts the whole reason I'd ever want to have a sentry in the first place, which is that robots are far better at aiming than I am.

Some day when I get a random Gunslinger I'll take this class for a spin again, but for the time being I think I'm going to stick with strictly Heavy, Medic, and Pyro.

Bongo, drop a surprise sentry, let it rack up a kill, blow it up.

Run somewhere else, drop another surprise sentry, let it get a kill or two, blow it up.

Keep your infinite ammo pistol out as your main combat weapon.

Then, when you've racked up a ton of revenge crits, GO HOG WILD!

McDohl, I hate being an Engineer, I can't aim, and I don't have the Frontier Justice anyway.

So I'm just going to wait until I get a random Gunslinger.

Remember, being an engineer is not about aim, or skill.  It's about being in the right place at the right time, tactics and spite.

If you play it right (before the update), all you need is wrench regardless if you're near or far from your equipment.  The golden wrench to MadMaxJr and I is not so much a limited item, but a state of being.

Oh man, tonight I was playing on some random shitstain custom map (some bullshit paylod tug-of-war). I was in a tiny room, nominally intended for snipers, with absolutely tiny windows. I see some dorks on a roof basically on the other side of the map and fire a rocket at 'em, just to keep 'em busy while I move to the front lines.

Not only do I fire the rocket without hitting the windowframe, and not only did it turn out to be a lucky crit, but the idiot demoman I shot at stood there for a full 6 or 7 seconds before taking the thing right in the kisser. Smithereens. That was the most satisfying single shot I've fired in a loooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnng time.

McDohl, I hate being an Engineer, I can't aim, and I don't have the Frontier Justice anyway.

So I'm just going to wait until I get a random Gunslinger.

Frontier Justice: The shotgun that gives you revenge crits for each kill your sentry does.
The Wrangler: The Atari controller that turns 2fort into Wranglerfort (Formerly Sniperfort)
The Gunslinger: BIG. ROBOT. HANDS.

Bongobill has none of these.

Bongo, may I suggest the following strategy: Round starts, drop your tele entrance at spawn. Run back in, refill  metal, set up the sentry right outside spawn in a fashion that it can slice up any scout or demoknight that decided to try and be cute and spawncamp. Whack it up to Level 2. Get dispenser to 3, Sentry to 3, tele Exit to 3.

By this time your team will have made some progress. If they have not, nothing you can do as engineer at this level will help them. Quit and find another server.

Should they show promise, alert your team that you would like a bit of help/protection setting the farm up. Move the dispenser up first, but not directly at the front lines. A bit back. A dispenser tells dim teamates "I should stand here with infinite ammo and rack up kills" and good teamates "This is where we can hold the line."

Grab the teleporter next and place it in a similar fashion. Not right AT the front lines, but far enough away from spawn that you give your team a quick trip to the battle.

Now run back, grab your sentry, teleport up with your team, and place it as close as you think you can get it to where it can unfold to L3 before being shredded. Refill your metal to 200 while you're at spawn if you want to sentry-tank it while it pops up.

Ideally, getting the sentry to level 3 and having it spray Texas Death everywhere - even if it's just for a few seconds before it's destroyed - will help your team push to the point/push back the rush. A large part from your rants in FF seem to be based around you seem to be on really bad teams. That or the fact that the engineers' farm works tremendously better as an asset to the Team assaulting the Fortress(es) (2).

It's also the only way you'll ever have it stay up long enough to do some work, until you learn the more clever tricks of Fungineering.

No idea, but Steam has been really fucked up for a while now too. Really fucking aggravating when you crash TF2 three times when trying to craft scrap metal.

It's been happening ever since the first class update. Valve has been slapping more and more effects and graphics into the game, and it is making the game run like shit. At this point a computer with the minimum specs will not run the game. I found that lowering the direct x settings down to 8.1 fixes some of the framerate problems if you are having them, but otherwise blame Valve for never optimizing any of their updates.

I'd be mildly irritated with a framerate drop, but what I'm getting is more akin to the Twilight Zone.  First my weapon model gets a bit abstract, then the Engineer's head disappears, then my hand starts stretching into infinity, then the world is slowly overtaken by a multicolored ooze that consumes and then takes away every building and living thing in Dustbowl, leaving me stranded in the middle of the vast desert before I finally expire from thirst and am greeted by a heavenly blue screen telling me it's apparently my shitty budget ATi card's fault.

The HUEG BITCH BLUH BLUH here is that I was going to purchase a new card that went on sale today (a single-slot 5770, which I need because my tower is not put together too intelligently) but this has pretty much shaken my faith in the brand, especially since it was replacing a midgrade nVidia that ran hot for two years and died relatively quietly.  If this is how AMD cards die then it's A) way too fucking soon and B) pretty ugly.

I suppose this would irritate me more if it had happened after I put in an order.  Eh.

My steam name is Lyrai

Could I get the steam names/friend invites from anyone who I do not have/does not have me? If only because Banner of Brothers (Buff Banner 5 Steam friends) is getting to be impossible because I never seem to have 5 people on my friends list playing TF2 at the same time, let alone on the same server.

If getting shanked by someone repeatedly won't torque you off, seeing the name of the weapon over and over will.  It's like some wonderful ragequit engine!
