The new items are weird as fuck. Also almost uniformly bad, for fun or not.

However, one of them does propose an interesting leak of a possible item in the Engineer update.

Homewrecker = Engineer getting forcefields/walls in his update?

You can't melee a Sentry to begin with, really.

Dispensers and Teleporters are low-key targets and the flamethrower deals with them optimally, roasting people using them as you destroy them.

So.. maybe it's a very subtle leak-hint.
Or apparently all it takes to get a bad idea added to the game is the ability to submit a really classy model.
I'm gonna go with the spoiler text. Remember: these are player-created items.

At any rate, my fondest hope is that the T.A.N.K. actually becomes an in-game reality.

Well, I can say that I've ubered a certain pyro in order for him to take out a sentry and he starts whacking at it with an axe. Then we both die.
Sooooo... At least maybe that particular pyro will finally be able to kill a freaking sentry.

I think I remember that game now. I'm pretty sure that was a weapon mis-switch.

Well, it has happened more than once.
So I rather doubt it.

I'm pretty sure that both Starr and I know you don't try to axe a sentry a question to death, so I'm gonna stick with the above.

EDIT: Wait, you're saying that you've ubered either one of us and that - as pyros - we've tried to axe a sentry to death multiple times?

Never mind that I only remember it happening that one time. That just seems kind of stupid if for no other reason that "why are you still targeting the same person with ubers?"

Noooo. It wasn't one of you two.
I was saying it was someone from here.

And I have since stopped ubering the person around sentries.

Oh.

I thought it was Starr because she DID try that once a few weeks back 'cause she accidentally switched weapons and got flustered, so she just tried to kill the sentry with the axe.

I didn't remember an uber being part of that, but that just sounded so familiar I figured I just missed that bit (our computers are in different rooms right now).

Well, okay good to know we're not THAT retarded!  :8D:

I really am enjoying this move away from minimalist, highly focused, polished areas of game and visual design to all this random crap. Oh wait, no I don't.

Valve's unlocks have been fine. They do sorta take away from the 'core' quality that was originally TF2 (simple and elegant and consistent with a high level of polish), but hey, it keeps the game frsh and, loss of elegance aside, is probably a better game now. Okay, sure. But this community shit? Man,  These items aren't even pretending to be good. Now there will be even more random crap to keep track of that adds almost nothing to the game. If there were just alternative models, that'd be pretty, but instead their junk design ideas, mixed with cool models. Also the fact that there are no ways to actually get these items besides luck or crafting (and luck). The TF2 team at Valve seems to slowly drift further away into madness.

EDIT:  I like to try and harass Robin Walker over email. I've never gotten a response, but I figure one day I might. I basically spend 10 minutes to shoot one off whenever I am reminded of their surprisingly daft game design decisions. So heres todays.

Quote
Subject: TF2 B-Team, please release TF2 A-Team from captivity

Dear TF2 B-Team. Please release whoever the smart people were who originally designed TF2. I know it's fun to be in control. I know it's fun to get the community to do stuff for you. I know it's even funner to implement half baked game design ideas for the community. But as someone who bought the game before this got stupid, please stop. Please put sensible people back in charge.

I mean the homewrecker? Really? Perfect for the Pyro who wishes to destroy sentries!

Oh wait no.... That's never going to happen.

But maybe it's PREDICTIVE of the engineer update! Maybe the pyro will help keep the new engineer in check!

Oh wait no.... That's never going to happen.

I forgot your unlock system and crafting system were designed by one of your children and are useless for just about anything besides trying feebly to construct felt hats with unreasonable amounts of machined parts.

So please, release the responsible, intelligent TF2 A-Team from captivity. I believe you locked them in one of the many dungeons of Gabe Newell's many castles. :(

I am really pretty confused by these new weapon items. I'm sure there are many other community items that are just better than what they have put into the game so far.

Though the hats are good.

stuff

But really, I don't see if it's something worth getting bent out of shape over. Maybe if they start rubber-stamping every godawful model and idea that comes through - but we know that will never be the case. I trust Valve's overall quality control.

Don't forget that as stupid as these items are, they've been coded in full.

A great idea is only that, unless you actually do the legwork and complete it.

EDIT: Also, while these items are kind of lame, at least nobody's going to argue they're overpowered (I DO want to try the Pain Train with the Gunboats though "Soldier is Scout!").

Well they're obviously not putting out every best item first so that there are exciting things in every update - oh who am I kidding they suck dick

Also, charging targe + pain train = SCOTLAND'S POINT CAPTURING MACHINE

I think they have niche uses, which is interesting. It's nice to having items that are supposed to be sidegrades but rarely are. I don't think three items that can increase your ability to craft if you don't want them are really going to ruin the game at this point.

The only one that is actually stupid (I think) is the chocolate bar because it doesn't increase overheal.

Demomen hate scouts. They can deal with them, but being at a disadvantage in a cap war? Pfft. No, none of the items are overpowered. They're just garbage. Thats why I'm annoyed. I'm not even annoyed that this garbage exists. If this was the end of it, whatever, but it's indicative of things to come. "Lets litter the game with a bunch of little B ideas and various other crap". It's bad design. I mean, why in gods name would you have trust in Valve's Quality Control? They're like, one of the best developers willing to implement totally awful ideals (lets all reflect on DWP for a moment and laugh).

Lets also reflect on the fact that you receive new items RANDOMLY. Lets also reflect on how the crafting system is incredibly useless. You can look at it on paper and go 'wow, you know, by the time you actually have the stuff necessary to craft the item you want, you'll probably already have the item! Alternatively, you might never get the stuff necessary to craft the item!'

Valve has been good about stuff like maps and unlocks (Some stuff sorta sucks and could have been designed better, but hey, good track record over all there), but now they're showing a willingness to make crap unlocks. Just quick, stupid BS. Shit that litters up the game and adds very little in return. Can I not be resentful that the consistent, nice game I bought, wants to fill it's self with RPG bullshit? That wasn't on the package!

Bad game design makes me  :humpf:
