Even the Razorback I could conceivably see using if I'm using the Sniper Rifle and I know there's a Spy or two lurking around.  (I never have, but then, I don't use the Sniper Rifle.)

This is a myth because you will just be executed via point-blank revolver shots before you can de-scope. The Razorback is almost irredeemable and needs a redesign.

You know they could just have the razorback deflect all bullets. It'd be equal parts hilarious and gnilly to have snipers walking backwards in front of heavies as moving shields.

I think we're about a year of unlocks away before you can play Team Fortress purely as mediaeval combat.

Server-side settings to disallow particular items would be a neat thing to have.

Yeah, jumping the gun here, but I'd be thrilled for a mod or server setting that is basically 'gameplay effecting items are non-community only'. The current objects aren't so offensive that I'd want to use something like that yet, but clearly I am being pessimistic toward the future.

For the record, the Razorback is pretty decent when you're using the Huntsman and you know there are a few spies around.

Just stay mobile and you won't get auto-headshot, and you'll have enough time to turn around and bow the enemy spy.

Of course, this means you have to give up your pee, so yeah.

Razorback is near completely useless w/ rifle, agreed.

Shotguns do damage based on pellet hits (that's why there's an option to make the spread the same every time). Each pellet does "bullet damage". Soldier getting completely wrecked by a good scout is already possible, and with the pain train it just makes it that much easier, not to mention the pistol.

It probably is a little bit over powered, particularly with the gun boats making you as mobile as you want, but so was the back burner when it came out, and the targe, and the Ambassador, and they're all fine now. I think you guys are underestimating what an old style pyro can do with the back burner. Yes, it's more situational than the poofer, but it is often the right tool for the job.

I wonder if the increased bullet damage makes soldiers no-charge headshot killable.

Well, if the stats aren't lying and I'm not missing anything, 150 damage +10% = 165 damage?

So no.

The backburner might be situational, but the poofer is more useful in all situations, so using the backburner makes you less helpful to your team as a whole, even if you think that being able to crit on the back is worth it. The ambassador is also still more useful than the revolver. So yeah, those items are not "fine now", regular items are still broken and they are adding even more. But as Kayin pointed out in the TT thread, the pain train is invisible unless you pull it out, so it's not obvious to the scout that the soldier is more vulnerable to bullets, so the question is, are you willing to attack that soldier on the off chance that he might cap faster? I mean, once he's on the point it's entirely obvious, but it's much more difficult to ambush someone who's on a point already.

I'm willing to attack a solider under any circumstances, now there's just a decent chance that he'll die faster. I think many of you are ignoring that the scout is one of the deadliest classes in the game.

I think many of you haven't played against Bal or Smiler playing scout for a while.

I'm speaking competitively.

The comps do not allow ANY ITEM that cannot be obtained via achievements

anyway you know what would help the item system suck less?
making drops of items that you dont have more likely and making crafts NEVER CREATE A WEAPON YOU ALREADY HAVE

I think the pain train *might* be okay if it wasn't passive. I'm not 100% sure of course, but that'd be a big improvement since that would actually be a real and serious tradeoff.

Wouldn't be needed if the mythical TRADING LIE was ever implemented.

But Smiler called it: It'll probably never be implemented by Valve. The only way we're getting trading is if some crafty players code it up, submit it to Valve, and they actually accept it.

I'm aware, but theoretically speaking. More what I mean to say is at the highest level of play, 10% becomes a lot.  Or more so, it becomes NOTICEABLE to players. Random pubby isn't going to think much of the difference.

But yeah this is one thing I will definitely agree with Bal on. Don't sleep on the fighty nature of the scout. Smiler used to be my most feared opponent as scout!

I played a little bit of scout last night. I suddenly went from fourth to being at the top of my team with about a 15 point lead. It feels good bro.

It was nice to have to try and frantically hit you with rockets again. I just don't feel the CALL OF BATTLE as much when you play other classes!
