What text filter? :wat:

Also, the hats are mostly LOL WHATEVER. I kind of think the Demoman's riot cop helmet is neat, but a lot of stuff is retreads or Christmas items.

That JAG though... I'm now almost certain it's only -25% damage penalty for the wrench itself. Yes, the speed boost only happens when you're actively wrenching, but when do you CARE about a speed boost? When you want it so bad you're... actively wrenching.

It's quite possibly the most blatant straight upgrade I've ever seen. Especially considering that a crit hit still kills spies and the amount of damaged repaired is the same as the base wrench.

Somebody better figure out the crafting recipe for this fucker FAST, because I want one like nobody's business.

I don't know about the JAG specifically, but I am pretty sure all the new weapons' recipes are an existing weapon plus two reclaimed metal.

Which is part of the reason I think I'll be switching to the beta.

while in medieval mode, there is a text filter that makes your chat old timey.

Example

"God" is changed to a random god's name (Zeus, Mars, Cthulhu)

"Medic" becomes Leech/Healer/Cleric

and yeah, the JAG is fucking OP

How do items work across both setups anyway? When you get stuff in the beta, do you keep it in the regular game?

No. The beta is, for all intents and purposes, a separate game. Nothing is shared.

Exactly one item doesn't use 2 reclaimed (sandvich + critacola = steak)

It's beginning to look like anything you can get in a Christmas Crate is unobtainable via crafting.

So the explicit statement Robin made as few as three (two?) months ago that they never wanted gameplay-affecting items to be unavailable to players who weren't going to pay extra is already out the widow?

Uh, I'm not sure Valve quite understands the meaning of this holiday, Christmas.

I think they'll add craft recipes on January 1st.

I could have sworn that we had this discussion about M:TG.

Can I just stick with my current Type 1 loadout for my classes and not have to buy anymore?

Some weapons right now are rather unbalanced. The Amputator makes your medic into a better dispenser that can heal itself and dodge rockets. The Jag makes regular sentries super-quick to build.

I expect the JAG and Amputator will be nerfed... but then again, they said that about the Shortstop.

Meanwhile, SENTRY MAYHEM.

The Jag isn't that great. If you're hitting your building you can't run for metal.

This is true.

But here's the thing. The times you really need that sentry up RIGHT NOW, you'd normally be hitting the sentry to achieve this anyway. And that's when it shines.

It helps a bit with setups (especially on those maps where do a bit of wrenching to pass the time until the metal you're tapping respawns), but it helps more with battlefield engineering and rewards gutsy building placement.

The candy cane, the new demo sword, and one other thing that I can't recall didn't go in this update, but will have crafting and drop placement at the same time they go live at the store. THey just wanted to meter it out apparently, presumably to test how many people will spin the crate wheel if they can get an item a week or two early outside of trading

The beta gives every item to everybody and there is no store, drops, crafting, or achievements. It is not linked with the main game at all.

There are achievements, and there's rumor they'll add drops and crafting to it later down the line.

From there it's just a manner of time before they either add the store or link the two, and I can bring my hats over.

i've obtained the Steak, BEAR HANDS and the Crossbow

Steak is a lot of fun but is very risky and currently M2 is identical to sandvich (the speedboost stacks with the GRU also, making you go REALLY fast)

bear hands are sorta crummy due to the fact that their viewmodel takes up most of your fucking screen limiting your vision

Crossbow is pretty fucking shitty as an OFFENSIVE tool but it opens up new ways to heal your team (if your team cannot defend their medics it may be a better idea to use one of the needlers) and you will get your shots blocked by teammates at times (apparently a friendly pyro can bounce your arrow back at you and you will be healed by this)

Is the Amputator as broken as it sounds?

The Shortstop was just nerfed. They removed the slowdown effect because it wasn't working as they wanted.
The Loch-n-Load gives you a 10% damage bonus in exchange for NO DAMAGE AT ALL if you hit any wall. Extremely bad weapon.

In fairness, most grenades don't do much if they hit walls anyway. Isn't there some other benefit on the L&L though?
