I'd let Samus crystal flash me, if you know what I mean.

Super Metroid is actually really easy, save for about five rooms in the entire game.  I always ended up getting stuck right before Ridley--FUCKING GOLD PIRATES-- then one day I decided to try again and I beat it in one sitting of 5 hours, 70%.  I think I replayed it within the next week and got barely over 3 hours, 85%.  I never could figure out how to get about 5% of the items, then I just never found another 10% or didn't want to go all the way back to get a single fucking missile expansion.  All in all, BESTEST METROID GAME EVER.

I think Nintendo should remake it for DS.  Hell, put Metroid & Metroid2 remade on the same card as well, then throw on a few new areas and you've got an instant best-seller.  Maybe put fusion on there too.  Then, they should make a 2D sequel to fusion.  I wanna know what happens after it dammit!

Actually, there are a number of moves that are unmentioned in game that are unnecessary, but useful if you can figure them out.  Such as the bomb/health trick.

Appears in the demo scene if you don't Press Start.

Yeah, I meant more that, in the course of actually playing the game, there is no actual reference to the move anywhere except for the attract mode.
The closest you get is if you go through Maridia via the Wrecked ship, you eventually pass a broken tube in one room.

That's all you get.

Roger, they're talking about the Crystal Flash, not the Maridia entrance.

The attract mode stuff doesn't show you that you have to hold down L and R (and X? I haven't played in years) while you lay the power bomb to do it. Or that it only works once you're below so much health (and I believe it counts whatever you have in the reserve tanks for this). And, of course, even if you did figure it out it wasn't worth a goddamn. I only did it the one time in the first room of Tourian, just to see it.

I think it's only real use is to get Spore Spawn's super missile upgrade in a 100% speed run without fighting Spore Spawn.

The stronger you punch, the better the door. So there are like super strong murderers who punch people into Venetian doors and shit"

Erm, but it DOES show her doing it at very low health.

I think you guys are missing the point which is that

A. None of the secret moves are necessary to finish the game so the argument is moot and

2. the fact that the secret moves are actually secrets is a good thing.

The only person who missed that point is TA, who has something of an understandable reason, though.

In fact I elect that we rename all the GBA Metroid games to Metroid: Samus Jumps off of Every Flat Surface in the Galaxy.

Which still doesn't address the Space Jump being about half-and-half reliable.  Wonky as wall-jumping is, it's still easier than Space Jumping up a wall.

Not entirely sure what you're doing, then, since you can space jump pretty reliably by mashing the button.

Yeah. Space Jump was easy even in Prime 2 when they did the whole 3D thing with it.

I had some trouble with space jump in Metroid2, but not in Super, and certainly not in any of the others.

I didn't have any trouble with the Space Jump in Super Metroid either.  Just Prime 2 where it's FIVE JUMPS AND YOU'RE DONE.
