Etta Game Engine
« on: August 25, 2008, 08:06:11 PM »

First demo of the game engine I am building

Etta

Currently, I'm working on the particle engine.

Left click to zoom, right click to unzoom
Left and right keys moves her, Escape quits.

Feature requests or ideas on where to take the project are welcome.

Welcome to SDL, home of the SDL.  May I take your order?

What's your current general idea for this engine so far? 2d sprite-based games with particle effects?

Yes, the engine will remain 2-D.  3-D is more than one man can handle.

And I will include SDL in the next batch.  Thought I got all the required libraries.

Vomitting Princess Mukatsuku is probably the korean MMO I've ever played.

Well, without the SDL it wouldn't open.  With the SDL it made my computer explode with astounding speed.  Usually when a computer I'm using crashes it slows down first or a program stops responding--NOT THIS TIME! Just *double click* *window opens* *DING COMPUTER'S DEAD*

Fucking Vista.

Oy, I don't really have the ability to test this under Vista.

The package now contains SDL.dll.

I'ma look up vista compatibility stuff.

Edit: I checked on the lone vista computer we have in the house.  It does crash immediately.  SDL and vista are not buddies. *sigh*

Please report which Vista.  The Vista that crashed here was a Vista Home Basic.

I think I have home premium, but the package shouldn't matter.  Then again, I've downloaded every single update I can for Vista to make sure every game is working perfectly.

Catloaf: update your graphics drivers and see if that helps.

Does setting the app compatibility tab (under properties) to XP have any effect?

Not that I've seen.  I tried it on XP sp2 compatibility, and with admin privileges.  Even with updating my graphics drivers, it still crashes on load.  I see the SDL_main screen being created, then the thing dies.

This is definitely a Vista issue, I think the compiler may have something to do with that.  I've been told to try recompiling with VC++ 2003 compilers, but that would disrupt my workflow.

Using Eclipse with GNU C++ compiler, linking with SDL, SDL_ttf, SDL_image.

I use the gnu compiler to ensure it can be compiled with the same results under windows and linux.
So converting the project into VC++ with no guarantee of it fixing any problems doesn't really make sense here.

Question.  Which Vista users here are x32 and x64?

I haven't even tried the game yet, but I'm x32.
