There is an ad-blocking Chrome extension in development somewhere. I don't know how well it works, though, because every time I try to install the beta it tells me I have installed the beta then I run it and I notice that it's still the stable version.

I don't give a flying fuck why there isn't proper add-on support for the browser. The fact that there isn't is what is unacceptable. I'm not suggesting advertising revenue is evil, only that not being able to tailor my browsing experience to my personal preference is bullshit.

For the record Ad-Block Plus is a list based system that only blocks what you want it to, and defaults only to known malicious ads. It shows Google text ads, and many banner ads. Will there be an ad-block + no script combo instantly? Yes, but again, I don't care. If they want to compete with Firefox, they need that level of support.

It'd be interesting if there were some set of standards for advertisements which, if adhered to, would prevent something from being added to the standard AdBlock-like lists, in general.

Hey, Bal, how about those X10 pop-under ads?

I seem to recall that addon functionality will be included in the next major release, the 4.0 branch (when we're in, what, the 3.something right now?). And if you go looking, there's addons available for development versions already.

So it looks like you'll get your wish!

Yeah, extensions and an official extension gallery to come next month (at least in the form of a beta), it seems.

I figured this is a good enough place as any.

Chrome OS was revealed today.
It's Chrome! With a few add-ons.
It's all internet, all the time. You don't have the internet? Oh.
 :nyoro~n:
INTEEERNEEEET! E-MAILS! SPREADSHEET! YOUTUBE! WOOO.

So all it is the you get rid of your OS and just use Chrome. And nothing but Chrome. You can get a few other applications, but through Chrome. You don't save anything on your computer. I guess it's directed at netbooks.

From the little information I found, it's not that bad of an idea. It's not for me, though. I am no where NEAR comfortable with entrusting everything to Google though. And life solely in the cloud? Eh. I can sort of see the benefits but not for a lot of things.
Do they assign you webspace for you to save stuff to? I think they'd HAVE to. You login with your Google name and they give you, like, 60 gbs of online storage or something.
I think... that I might grab it and try to use it along with my Windows 7. Every now and then just throw some stuff into my designated part in the cloud and grab it from another computer, okay. Sure. As long as Chrome OS is a fairly small file. Which I sure it is.

For now it only runs on certain hardware, though. It's open source, so that'll change, but prepare to wait.

I don't mind trusting Google but I literally have no use for this. At all.

The chatter about throwing out the bootloader and initializing services as they're needed is interesting.  Not sure how well it'd work on a fully-featured machine, but getting rid of boot times is of course something the major devs have been attempting for years.

It's a pretty specialized OS at this point, but the nice thing about open-source is that somebody, somewhere can find a use for the code in a more generalized environment.

There's FlashBlock, which is basically AdBlock. Also AdThwart which is the same thing again.

There's the RSS thingo which gives you RSS powers in your URL bar like every other browser.

There's a Google Reader notifier, which is extremely handy. Norondor you should start using Google Reader and stop checking 400 sites a day. Also a Wave notifier.

Man this rules.
