Another thing I use a lot of in Firefox is the ability to search different engines without having to mouse around.  Ctrl+K to get to the search box (which works in Chrome) and then ctrl up/dn to switch through different engines.  IIRC, Opera had something where one could map a letter to a search engine and use that from the URL bar.  I kind of think that Chrome might have something similar, but I haven't found out how to set it up.

EDIT: That was fast.  Options -> Manage (Default Search) -> change the "keyword" for a search engine to something nice and brief.  E.g., "gf" for gamefaqs search, "g" for google, etc.. Type "g how i mine 4 fish" and it'll query google with the string following "g ".

Another (minor) gripe: there is no "reload frame."

Exchange webmail support seems flawless so far, which is a fairly impressive feat.

Download manager's a bit weird - each download belongs to the tab that started it, which is fine and totally in keeping with the "each tab is its own process" thing, but it takes some getting used to since very often you have a tab open specifically to start the download with, and would usually close it once the download's been queued and go do something else.  Mostly takes getting used to, except for the fact that if you do close the tab, Chrome just throws those downloads out the window instead of warning you that you're about to terminate them (like every other browser does when you do something to stop the DM).

From what I've seen, if you close a tab from which you made a download (say, a Rapishare page), the download will keep going in the background.  To check its progress, you open a Downloads tag by either hitting Ctrl+J or clicking the wrench->"Downloads."  From there, you can pull the tab into its own window and treat it like the Firefox download manager.

I've had a download going in both a regular window and an incognito window at the same time and opened download tabs in both after the downloads were started.  The incog download didn't show up in the regular download list, but the regular download appeared in the incog download list as "Canceled."  Both downloads completed successfully.

If you start a download and completely close the Chrome window, it'll cancel the download and delete the partial file, and when you start Chrome up again the canceled download will appear in the download list, but you won't be able to restart it; your only option will be to manually remove it from the list.

Chrome seems to struggle substantially with loading pages that contain content that may be blocked by my work network; either that, or it's just these terrible computers not responding well to new processes being created all the time. I like the layout of the browser in any case, it's very simple.

edit; The nice thing is, once the page loads the overall speed is FAST. Like, stupid fast. This really blows firefox out of the water. I almost feel bad for liking this better, but if they can promise me less crashes and more consistent speed then I think maybe I'm going to switch to chrome.

I do feel like a bit of a tool for feeding Google's massive HUGE HUGE HUGE world domination machine, but at the end of the day, Chrome is the only browser that doesn't crash on me every half hour.  The rest of 'em get what they deserve.

Let's put it this way: did you ever figure out how to "win" that Pandemic game?

Now that I'm actually on a Windows machine (and therefore able to try Chrome out), I like it.  I like it a lot.  The sooner their Mac version comes out, the happier I'll be.

That Pandemic metaphor would have netted you karma if we had karma.

I've noticed some weirdness on sites on sites like Facebook and Twitter. For instance, in Twitter: you click "Follow" and the button changes to "Now following" or something like that. Doesn't seem to work in Chrome though. Not sure if it's a Javascript thing or some other API nonsense I wouldn't understand anyway.

Did you try right-clicking?

It's kind of weird that Google's own browser doesn't feature a search box in the address bar.  Yes, I know you can search from the address box but it just... doesn't quite feel the same.

Not that it'll be an issue for long.  I'm sure every corporation on the planet is cooking up a toolbar addon for this even as I type.

Also, if they're such minimalists, why is there still a "Go" button?

It's kinda like running a benchmark program. Build a new rig, open all your bookmarks at once, and see if the fucking thing doesn't melt instantly.

I 'open all bookmarks' in my webcomic subfolder daily, but I guess that's not the same.

And goddammit are we able to turn off the auto-spellchecker yet?

I suspect it does that because your bookmark toolbar is a "sub-folder". But this is entirely too capricious and unfounded to be called a reasonable suspicion by all but the most :slow: and :wakka: .

In the meantime, this is why I have a PORN GALLERIES sub-folder. BENCHMARK GO!

Posting from Chrome in my slow ass XP partition. It's fast on this, and boots way faster than firefox. I might main this on Linux when it comes out.  :wuv:

Also, extend-able text fields.  ::D:

Edit: and spell check too.

Oh lord, I think I'm in love.

I don't demand much from a browser, so Chrome is working pretty sweet, so far.
