Gurren Lagann:
No, Kamina has to die because he kisses Object of Fanboy Worship.
Don't pay attention to the "sub text" or "themes" when looking for the reason a Gainax show makes a decision! They are just red herrings!

For example:
Why does the boy cadet get the core drill and not the much more competent girl cadet?
'CUZ HE HAS A COCK JUST LIKE MOST OF THEIR AUDIENCE.

The last 4 episodes are all kind of downers.
I was surprised when the Vilal or whatever his name is has his Anti-Spiral vision. I had been expecting it, but it still made me react.
I guess I'm just a total pussy.

Well,
Kamina needed to die so that the hero can rise to his full potential. Archetype happens all the fuck over everywhere, Obi Wan to his Luke and all that jazz. Even if they weren't shooting for meaning, they seem to have achieved some.
That's.... wow. Yeah. You're right. Japan puts the miso in misogyny.

Related note:
Holy shit, Darry got hot. She went from diapers to curves in 7 years? Jesus, I need to go come to terms with this with a cold shower. Fuck you, Japan.
I don't know shit about Go and Log In or whatever, but if whoever exploded that you're all so upset about was in any way cool, you should have seen that coming.  It's just a damn rule of Japanese* fiction.  Anybody with a sense of style, especially if the rest of the series is devoid of it, dies.  I call it the Kaji Rule.

* Probably not limited to Japan at all.  I mean, Mercutio.   :MENDOZAAAAA:

It's worth watching! ::D:
Although it's not the same rule, I give it the same name. It is really apropos here.
They are just upset that the main character decides to just keep his girlfriend dead instead of destroying the universe with his godlike powers (As awesome as the intro to the first episode may be, he made the right decision overall).
EDIT: Fine classic, you big baby.

They are just upset that spoilers...

More like that the only indication that such a thing is going to happen comes all of 15 minutes before it actually does, and doesn't make sense to me within the context of the show itself. i.e.
Anti-spiral Nia was an "artificial life-form" hijacking the original Nia's spiral body. Why doesn't the original body and consciousness remain intact after the ordeal? To show Simon's responsibility about his godlike power? For a pointless extra tragedy?
No one's saying Simon makes the wrong decision, and it makes sense because him taking and delegating responsibility is an important part of that arc. I'm just baffled by why the extra little problem rears its ugly head. Other than
pointless extra tragedy.
EDIT: Minor edits for clarity and more sense-make.

So what did you guys think about Gundam Seed Destany? I know i'm  :slow:ing since 00 is out, but I thought GSD was one of the best animes I've ever seen. Right up there with Evangelion, and I just realised that I've never heard what you all think of it.

Mars and romo will agree with me.

Gundam Seed Destiny was, and is absolute shit.

Plot weirdness, CHARACTERS ALL LOOK THE SAME EXCEPT FOR HAIR AND EYE COLOR, more stock footage than god, BACKPACKS.

I'm thinking about watching Code Geass. Or maybe doing something else, something more constructive with my time.

Why is Code Geass supposed to be good again?

It seems to get recommended a lot on the NeoGAF. Looks kind of bland to me. I think I'll skip it.

Code Geass flows like an avalanche, with a slick torrent of colorful boulders they call characters tumbling down the narrative mountain.

I'd surmise the central reason it gained such notoriety was because unlike 96% of the other product out there, the main character isn't a clueless pile of wet cardboard.

What Classic read:
Code Geass flows...
...main character isn't a clueless pile of wet cardboard.
:perfect: Sounds like an unrivaled recommendation from Arc! I may watch it in as few as 6 months.

Sorry, sorry, I only watch like one thing from Japan anymore, so I have to make it count.

The editing is top tier, and made me come back to catch up every other week. Haven't a clue as to whether I liked it though.

The problem with Bleach, as with so many other shounen jump titles, is that it has an absolute torrent of characters with neat designs, fun powers, and often interesting backstories and ties to one another.

And then it ignores them all in favor of a dumb-as-bricks main character who is running into a wall over and over again until he powers up.  And then when the main plotline is over, they repeat the exact same one over again, but this time IN BIZARRO VISION.
