Apis aside, One Piece filler is almost, but not quite, completely unlike shit. The show is my long-as-fuck shonen of choice.

To of all things, Yakitate Japan. Proving once and for all that my tastes are essentially insane. I quit after Azuma starts baking off against ninjas. I... It... I have limits (also the school year started).

The yakitate manga is FUCKING SUBLIME, but i watched the show and thought it was horrible shit. Lol, pacing! STOP MAKING EVERY ISSUE OF THE COMIC BOOK INTO AN EPISODE OF THE SHOW YOU STUPID SUITS FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

No, but seriously, he makes a bagel so tasty that the guy who eats it goes back in time and prevents his mom's death so he can have a happy family.

A bagel so good it can literally change history.

A pun so perfect in its setup and execution that I died of joy. (Heaven's waiting room is nowhere near as nice as they make it out to be.)

The Black Tri-star bakers episode is probably my favorite filler episode of anything ever.

You saw a horrifically butchered version of One Piece, so that might color your view of it a little.

I once tried to read that but there were times I could hardly understand the translation. I'm rather sensitive about that sort of thing.

doom fails to account for how fantastic the japanese vocal cast is, of course.  if you can stand the stretching out, go for it.

I don't care how good the vocal cast is if I have to watch three episodes in a row of A) A flashback sequence B) the villain recounting the story we were just told except he's telling it this time or C) a bad thing is happening this is totally dramatic ohhhh the poor people.

Sky Island, Captain Kuro and Arabasta Revolution respectively. Do not confuse A with the awesome two-part episode where Norland and that Red Maned Guy hang out.

No seriously I didn't read/watch One Piece for an ENTIRE YEAR TWICE because Captain Kuro recounting his story 3-4 fucking times in the anime arc was so boring.

The upside is that this excess of time allowed the CP9 arc to draw to an end so when I finally caught up I did so on the single best arc in all Shonen Manga of all time.

Everything after Thriller Bark in One Piece is so fucking insane that it's like a delicious sensory overload.

There a few decent Bount episodes. They all involve the dimension hopping whale and a dracula fighting with Chad, Matsumoto, Ururu, and Deathface McMurderpants.

I love Deathface. He's the best character in the whole series.

Bleach's first opening was phenomenal. Artsy, stylish, decent music. It belongs right up there with Cowboy Bebop.

Then they changed to the generic "characters run around, pose, and do stuff to loud music" opening tripe. Fuck you, Japan.

To be fair, Bleach's first opening gives you entirely the wrong impression of the series, even including the episodes it went with.  I get the feeling they put it together before actually reading the story.

That's... very true. Still, I'd take it over the craptastic shonen montage du jour any day.

The first half of the Soul Eater OP earns props for reminding me of American - Cartoon - Openings - With - Superior - Animation - Compared - To - The - Actual - Episode, which Soul Eater doesn't actually suffer from, but does lift a great deal of the Impossible - In - Live - Action camera trickery found in those openings.

I never begrudged any show for sinking slightly more budget on a bit you have to see repeatedly.  Kinda wish they'd extend that doctrine to transformation sequences and the like.

Yeah, you, He-Man.  Get back over here.  I'm talking to you.

Now THAT is how you make an anime opening. Hell, that's how you make an anime. Hell, I clearly have no idea what I'm talking about.
