Seriously.  The legal guys I knew were total fuckers when it came to Moogles, for some reason.

Chocobos, Sephiroth, the entirety of Kingdom Hearts... fair use.  Moogles?  They'd eat your fucking ass for dinner.

This is my first time ever watching Samurai Pizza Cats.  I've only watched about five minutes of the first episode, and the narrator is already my favorite character.

And love interest fires missiles out of her head.   :wat:

Apparently, a lot of the translation was ad-libbed just so the characters' mouths would sync up.

I'm pretty sure that's why
Speedy suddenly decides he's in love with Polly, rather than Lucille, who he's been dating for the entirety of the series,
in the final episode.

No no, that's the same in the original Japanese series too.

Come on, that's hardly a Samurai Pizza Cats thing.

Or, you know, it was meant to be a joke at the expense of other series' tendency to do that shit.

I love the old dubs where they were unafraid to fill the dead space with more jokes, though.  Because there's a lot of dead space, even in comedy anime.

Buge is right.  I remember hearing that Saban didn't have pretty much anything to work with on SPC, so everything was made up.

Yep, they basically rewrote the scripts from scratch for the English version.

I don't think I've ever seen the 4th wall trampled into such fine little grains of dust as brutally and beautifully as it was in that show.

Welp, I've been watching Toradora! and feel significantly less masculine for it. What can I say, I'm a sucker for a Japanese high school love story.

The end of episode 19:  :;_;:

That looks like the lamest anime series I have ever seen based on the picture that accompanies the article. What is it about, little Japanese girls having tea parties while their self insertion male teacher hides his massive pedophilic boner?

WHAT IS THIS ANIME ABOUT?

(Check one)

[ ] Superpowered bishounen whining about pacifism while killing everybody they meet.
[ ] Little Japanese girls having tea parties while their self insertion male teacher hides his massive pedophilic boner.
[ ] Lesbians fighting other lesbians as a subtle expression of girls' love.
[ ] Tentacles.

I've seen like ten minutes of this show and I'm led to believe it's akin to a sort of Japanese Family Guy. All pop-culture references that westerners aren't gonna get without an extensive, studious knowledge of what's been going on over there for the past several decades.

It's unlike most other shows in that it's morbid and highly visually stylized.  Every character is completely insane (as in literally mentally ill) in a different way and it's still funny without total knowledge of the common references.  While it has references, it's not like Family Guy, as it doesn't use unrelated vignettes and  actually has competent writers who don't need to fill time up with over elongated unfunny jokes.

If you liked Pani Poni Dash, which now has newly released OVAs and is made by the same studio (SHAFT), you'll like Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. In fact, I'd say they're basically the same thing with different characters and one has a darker tone.

The anime is better than the manga, but the plots are the same so if want to see if you'll like it or not just go to a manga-viewing site and look it up.

I've started watching Gundam 0083 again.  I first saw this during the early era of the Adult Swim block, but I never got to see the end.  For some reason I just love the bad guys in this one.  Gato is just an extreme badass.

I just got around to catching up on the new Fullmetal Alchemist episodes using the wonders of Funimation's new streaming feature. Translation seemed fine and I enjoyed the water alchemist that was thrown in so the first episode wouldn't be a total retread the old material. It'll be interesting to see if they can keep the new content up. I was under the impression they might do until
Post-Hughes
, where the original show started significantly deviating from the source material.

Also the outro isn't terrible; which is amazing by itself.
