I wouldn't be surprised if he was executive producer.

Actually, supposedly (and ironically) Roger hates it.  I think it's the same principle that explains why cats will play with superballs that you can get out of vending machines, bits of wadded-up paper and whatever is lying around the house, but if you go out of your way to get something big and expensive that's designed to keep them entertained they'll turn up their noses at it.

So I just finished Golgo 13: Queen Bee after trying to find the damn thing for months now.

It was astoundingly disappointing compared to the first movie.

So, Sky Crawlers.

Points for computer effects, hushed pallet, pseudo-WWII technology, adorable dog mascot, and liberal use of canards. Demerits for Metal Gear-esque intrigue and conspiracy babble.

Oh, and Mr. Invincible Enemy Fighter Pilot at the Beginning:
while not expressly forbidden, shooting pilots in mid air after they've already bailed out of their plane is generally frowned upon.
Forgot to mention: The babble is bullshit to the nth degree.

View the entire series as a take that against the current animation industry (in japan) and it's otaku, and a lot more things will make sense.

Pretty much anything animated in Japan since Haruhi fits that description.

Which is not to say they weren't constantly self-flagellating before, it's just that nothing post-2chan will even sell if it doesn't have a navel large enough to fit ones entire head inside.

Alternately: the entire subgenre is dumb enough to just always come off as a self-parody.

Come to think of it, I think I've beaten that particular horse to death.  Disregard my talking.

So. Yeah, I've been keeping up with Queen's Blade. Yeah.

Now, this just might be the stockholm talking, but I'm actually kinda enjoying it.

Yeah, it's dumb, real dumb, and there isn't even a single creative bone in the entire project from premise to finished product beyond the oft-mentioned acid-projectile lactating slime bunnygirl. But, most (but far, far from all) of the stupidity is pleasantly sequestered where it can't hurt anybody, mainly the annoying Scrappy characters and the obscene lengths the show goes for fanservice. And, honestly, it's just kind of fun. It reminds me somewhat of Zoids: New Century in a way, only with strippers.

Rihaku sure is a military genius.

WE MUST KEEP THIS PERSON FROM GETTING NEAR THIS OTHER PERSON.

SO WE WILL PUT ONE PERSON AT THE BOTTOM OF A PIT.

AND TRICK THE OTHER PERSON INTO FALLING INTO THE SAME PIT.

There's a Thundercats reference somewhere in there but I know it's not mine to make.

Yeah, caught the first two episodes on a whim and I'm damn intrigued. Think I'm gonna finish it.

I don't think there's a character in this I haven't at least somewhat enjoyed so far! LOOKIN' GOOD

Interview with the writer for the new Cowboy Bebop flick:

Quote
AV: It's been reported that the staff who made the anime-- the studio Sunrise --is going to remain involved in the film. Do you know at this point if this will include significant involvement in the script?

PC: Yes, they're very much involved.  I met with all of them in Tokyo in December - at a long meeting with Keanu in the room.  I thought there was an immediate rapport between all of us, particularly Shinchiro Watanabe and Keanu.  I asked questions, presented scenarios, and they were very specific about their vision for the series, and how it might convert to a live-action film.  They've continued to be in touch since then; and last month I received a very detailed letter, which I've consulted regularly.  I'm close to finishing an early draft, and I believe they'll be very happy with it.  Not only does the script stay extremely true to the show -- I also know that Erwin and Fox are already discussing production designers that can reproduce the "look" of Cowboy Bebop as closely as possible.  They'll be reading the script soon... so my fingers are crossed.

It's a pretty short interview, but I came out of it way more hopeful for this thing than I was after hearing Keanu freaking Reeves was going to play Spike. Keeping my fingers crossed on this one.
